Summary: There are several dolls in my Never to be Written Gallery that are characters from original stories that, get this, I will never write. But I've been thinking about two in particular lately.
<( ) />Winnie and Sunny, a History<( ) /><( ) />Their full names are Winter and Summer Snow (man, I'm creative, aren't I? English major my buttocks) and they share the title of middle children in their family, having one older and one younger sister (three guesses what their names are). Identical to the last freckle, these twins spent their early year connected at the hip so to speak. Never was there one without the other and rarely did you see them at odds even though their personalities clashed spectacularly.<( ) /><( ) />Summer, born 11 minutes before her sister, came into the world a fairly shy person. Not meek by any means, she was always willing to stand up for herself and others, but generally tried to avoid contact with large groups of people.<( ) /><( ) />Winter was the polar opposite. She lived and thrived in the spotlight of attention. The only thing she loved more than being seen and heard was Summer.<( ) /><( ) />As they grew, they no longer felt the need to be together constantly. Summer found her niche in a small corner of a local garden where other shy children frequented.<( ) /><( ) />Winnie managed to find a slightly larger group of friends who loved the lime-light as much as she did.<( ) /><( ) />And so, for a while, they were happy. Separate, but still part of a whole. It wasn't until they hit secondary school that things started to go downhill for the pair.<( ) /><( ) />Winnie, ever the socialite visibly blossomed. Popular among her peers for her looks, grades and personality, she attracted people to her like moths to a flame. She em( )aced her new teenage life and worked hard to become better, ( )illiant, joining numerous clubs and activities in and out of school.<( ) /><( ) />Summer, however, floundered to find solid ground after being washed away by her sister accomplishments. Not able to step very far outside her comfort zone, she resigned herself to working hard and being content with her own group of friends and, for a while at least, she was.<( ) /><( ) />Then other people started to notice how very different the two girls were. Teachers, students, even their parents started to wonder how they could be so vastly different. Winnie became the 'pretty' one even though they were identical. Winnie was also the 'smart' one even though their grades, except maybe in participation, were hardly separated by a decimal.<( ) /><( ) />"Why aren't you more like Winnie?"<( ) /><( ) />"Oops, sorry, I thought you were Winnie."<( ) /><( ) />"Winnie's so smart and so funny!"<( ) /><( ) />"I bet it's so much fun, living with Winnie."<( ) /><( ) />"Winnie did ______, I bet you couldn't do that, Summer! Haha!"<( ) /><( ) />The younger twin was always the first on everyone's mind whenever someone saw either of them and slowly Summer started to resent her sister. They were not the same person and she grew tired of being compared, angry at being mistaken and furious that Winnie didn't put an end to it. No, Winnie was too caught up in her new, fabulous life to worry that her poor, quite, misunderstood, sister was being...well, misunderstood. At least, in Summer's opinion.<( ) /><( ) />The truth of the matter was that Winnie hadn't the foggiest idea her sister was going through such turmoil. Maybe it was a sign of self-centered naivety, but Winnie never even hear a whisper of Sunny being unhappy until it was much too late. To Winnie, Sunny raised the sun and moon. Her sister was always there for her, by her side to just be a listening ear and a good friend, a best friend. She loved the life and name she was making for herself; she lived and ( )eathed to have all eyes on her. It was exhilarating. But she never forgot who had always taken care of her and would be there for her when her peers and admirers would not be. She adored her true friends of course, but there was nothing like having a sister, right?<( ) /><( ) />She worried when Sunny started to draw away from her, fretted when she would get snapped at, and fought back tears she the other girl started to ignore her. But, she was not the outgoing one for no reason and finally decided enough was enough and confronted her closest sibling.<( ) /><( ) />The argument was...memorable, to say the least. There was shouting and hasty words thrown about in anger and ultimately nothing was resolved and the next day Summer came home, her hair straightened and dyed a dark ( )own. "This," she declared. "Is just the first of many steps I'm taking to distance myself away from you. The worse thing that's ever happened to me was being born your sister. The second worse had to look like you. At least this way, people will be able to tell us apart."<( ) /><( ) />Confused and hurt, Winter had responded wildly. "Why stop at that?!" she sneered. "Someone colorblind might still think you’re as pretty as me despite that god-awful look!" And she proceeded to make a manic search for a pair of scissors and snipped off her golden hair, once coifed perfectly to match each of Summer's own curls, to the root.<( ) /><( ) />Angry at each other, themselves and the way life had turned about for them, they stopped speaking unless absolutely had to, and when they did hold a pleasant conversation, it was severely strained. Not that most of their conversations would be considered pleasant.<( ) /><( ) />Summer, became distant from her family as a whole, taking comfort in her friends Witt and Taylor. Winnie slowly became cold and unfriendly to anyone outside her most trusted group of friends, Tatiana and Jayme, as well as the boys Cameron, Octavius and Kalasin.<( ) /><( ) />As it was, in very stereotypical high school fashion, they became the 'Pretty-Mean Girl' with the unfortunate relation to the resident 'Loser' (there goes my creativity again. Charming, right?).<( ) /><( ) />It would be 2 or 3 years before they reconciled, their relationship never quite the same, but better in some ways after they made a mutual effort to try to understand each other.<( ) /><( ) />THE END<( ) /><( ) />...<( ) /><( ) />...<( ) /><( ) />...<( ) /><( ) />Or is it???<( ) /><( ) />...<( ) /><( ) />...<( ) /><( ) />...<( ) /><( ) />Yeah, it is. |
