GENERAL SUMMARY OF THE WORLD
in the late 22rd century, the world went through a huge evolution and advancement in technology—specifically, biotechnology and genetics. humans began to appear with enhanced and advanced abilities outside the normal human range. many saw these genetically gifted humans as the next form humans were destined to evolve into. soon, many normal humans began to imitate these advanced humans, using integrated biotech to alter their bodies. however, this state of rapid growth was soon disrupted by an event in the early 23rd century called the changing, which caused a widespread malfunction of biotechnology, killing many humans, destroying entire cities, and sending the world into a post-apocalyptic state. the number of advanced and regular humans began to dwindle, while the amount of malfunctioning, damaged, biotech-integrated humans grew. the world teeters on the brink of disaster, caught between the lush grandeur, sustainability, and discovery of before and the decaying, disaster-prone state of after.
SETTING
- most of the first part of whiplash takes place within the academy
- outside of the academy is a decaying society
- there are still metropolis with incredible biotechnology and large cityscapes, but more and more are disappearing, malfunctioning and falling into decay, or being taken over by nature
- most of the world is a wasteland
- i’ll expand on this more at a later time
PEOPLE/CHARACTER SPECIFICATIONS
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON MAKING AN ALT CHARACTER, THESE POWERS ARE OFF LIMITS: ENHANCED SPEED/AGILITY, ENHANCED REFLEXES, PERSUASIVE MANIPULATION, ENHANCED REFLEXES/WEAPON ABILITY
- three types of people
- norms
- alts (short for alternative humans)
- genetically altered/advanced humans
- no difference from normal humans except for the powers they possess
- these powers are called deviates (or dev for short)
- devs can only be based off of the normal limitations of the human body/physics (ex: no generating fire powers)
- categories include:
- physical prowess (enhanced speed, enhanced strength, enhanced senses, enhanced durability, enhanced healing, produce toxins, breathe underwater, etc.)
- intelligence prowess (ability to process information instantaneously, ability to read/decipher most languages, etc.)
- mental prowess (precognition, ability to tell whether a person is lying through body language, mimicry, siren-like ability/persuasion, etc.)
- henges (short for engineered humans)
- biotechnologically engineered humans
- after the changing, the technology starts going haywire/obsolete
- many begin to go insane from malware in brains, or just general slow technology
- nearly impossible to do repairs on the technology, though some of the wealthiest manage
- hedges were meant to mimic the alts after these genetically superior humans first appeared, but since then have transcended limits (e.g. henges can have implants that generate fire— their powers are more like those found in the typical “superhero” genre)
- stats/genetic makeup/appearance
- nearly all humans are genetically/racially/ethnically mixed
- there’s really no such thing as a “black person” or a “white person"
- most people have a slightly androgynous look
- the population is still pretty evenly split in terms of gender
- however, the percentage of LGBTQA+ is around 35%
- after the changing, very few older people exist anymore
- 60s are considered to be extremely old, anyone beyond that is very rare
- eye colors are now split with 50% being brown, 50% being all the other colors (green, blue, grey)
FASHION & CULTURE
- to be expanded upon later
