As of June 21 2016 this section is undergoing major additions and I may remove things as I edit them and replace them later. It's going to be rearranged and put in a better order and there should be more information by mid-July, hopefully.
As of June 21 I am editing the Seelie.
Seelie info uploaded June 28. I'm working on the Sidhe as of the same day.
Sidhe info uploaded July 23. I am now editing both Sunlings and Shadowlings. This update will hopefully come more quickly.
As of now (23/7/16) I will be posting rewrites of original races in Green and small additions or changes in Light blue
RACES OF ALORIA
The most common race is the human race. They are found in almost every country and have by far the largest numbers.
Two of the four other common races (the sidhe and the seelie) are sometimes referred to as the Fae or Fay and are often mistrusted by humans.
Shadowlings and Daylings are much more similar to humans and they are more accepted among the human race.
THE SIDHE
BIOLOGY
Anatomy and physiology: the anatomy of a Sidhe is almost identical to that of a human, with no major differences save slightly less difference between the sexes.
Life cycles: Their life cycles are similar to humans, though like all Fae races they have a notably longer lifespan.
Diet: They are herbivores though can eat meat, but it is generally only consumed when they are among humans.
Apperance: Sidhes are petite, with males ranging from around 3'10 - 4'1 and females ranging from 3'8 - 4'0 in height. Their builds are much more slender and they tend to have a fragile look. Their skin spectrum is similar to humans, though their skin occasionally has a green or grey tint. Their eyes tend to be brown, hazel or black and their hair runs in similar shades, though some Sidhe have naturally grey hair at birth.
Abilities and magic: Sidhe are naturally more attuned to magic than humans, and are generally more powerful. Sidhe do not often pursue magic for combat, which sometimes leads to them being treated with disdain by other races. They generally follow pathes of nature or ancient magic, and are extremely fearful of necromancers or other shadow magic users.
BEHAVIOR
Home and society: the Sidhe generally reside in Senria and have close ties to the Seelie race. They live in small, close-knit villages and are reclusive in nature, rarely going near human countries. They are often mistrustful of non-Fae races, but are generally welcoming towards outsiders. They do set many traps for humans near their homes, which has led to them having a reputation as tricksters.
Motivation and emotion: Their emotional range is identical to humans, and children as well as adults are told to express emotion and generally see kindness as an important virtue. They do not believe that rational thought always leads to order and sees sensitivity as a positive trait rather than a weakness.
Kinship and family: Sidhe mate for life, and it is considered important that a partner is selected for love rather than social standing. They are generally close to their villages as well as children or siblings.
Religion: Their religion is a fairly simplistic folk religion also practiced by the Seelie as well as many other Fae races.
Marks: They recieve the same marks as humans.
Language: They speak a language only spoken by their race, though some have made the transition to human languages.
THE SEELIE
Biology
Anatomy and physiology: Their anayomy is extremely similar to that of a human's aside from their lack of sex. The Seelie are a hermaphroditic race, and most Seelie are fiercly proud of this fact. They have less body hair than human beings, and are able to shape-shift. Seelie are ectothermic (cold-blooded) and poikilothermic, meaning that their bodies are able to function at a variety of temperatures.
Life cycle: Their life cycle has the same stages as a humans, though the periods in life vary. Seelie pregnancies are shorter than the pregnancies of humans, and their childhood is significantly longer lasting until around twenty five years of age. They generally live for as long as 200 years.
Diet: They need less food than humans, though are omnivores with a diet with many similarities.
Apperance: In their natural form, Seelie are slightly smaller than the average human male, standing between 165 cm and 175 cm (5'5-5'9) on average. They have slighter builds than humans and their skin is a grey-white, though there are occasionally tints of light green in their skin. Their eyes can be almost any colour, and they lack both pupil and iris. Their hair is naturally white or grey, sometimes with traces of green or blue.
Abilities and Magic: Magic is more common in Seelie than in other races and Seelie naturally have the ability to change their form to resemble other humanoid beings, earning them the name of 'doppelgänger' or 'changeling' among the human race and other races. There are many folk stories in human nations about babies or young children being carried off by the Seelie. This stems from teh misconceptions among other races that the Seelie are unable to reproduce. The Seelie are naturally slightly telepathic, though levels vary depending on the individual and some are unable to sense anything other than basic emotions. Seelie generally practice a psychic magic or use their magic to enhance their already-present shapeshifting abilities, though ancient magics and dark magics are also popular among their race due to the lack of taboo surrounding them that is often found in other races.
Motivation and emotion: They feel a range of emotion similar to humans, though emotion is often seen as a bit of a roadblock to the Seelie as they believe that a being should be rational before anything else. They strongly encourage logical thinking and in many ways think that emotion is useless and a distraction.
Behavior
Home and society: The Seelie reside mostly in Senria, though there are fair numbers in Carya and the Western countries as well as small communities in traditionally human countries. In Senria, they have four large city states instead of independent countries, the largest of which is known as Iyra. There are very few small settlements. When among humans, Seelie will generally use any pronoun a human assigns to them and will often take a human form. Many Seelie dislike the term 'it' as they consider it insulting, whereas others will refuse to answer to anything but the term.
Religion: The Seelie practice a non-organized religion that is similar to most religions practiced by the Fae races.
Marks: They recieve different types of Marks than humans, and the type of Mark is not generally seen as important.
Language: They speak the same language spoken in Kymrin, and very few Seelie speak their own ethnic language.
Kinship and family: Marriage is not practiced among the Seelie though they generally mate for life. They are monogamous and polygamy is rare as there is less of a sex drive found in the Seelie due to their nature as a hermaphroditic race. Seelie families are generally fairly close.
THE SHADOWLINGS
Average height: They are about the same height as humans, usually slightly taller.
Average weight: They are usually less heavy than humans but are usually slightly stronger.
Skin colour: Any shade of white, grey or black.
Eye colour: They have black, white or blue eyes, with black being the least common, though colours tend to run in families.
Hair colour: Their hair colour is extremely dependent on the region, though those with dark skin generally have white or extremely light blue hair while those with light skin generally have darker hair tones.
Lifespan: They longer life spans than humans, generally living until around 175 years old, though many claim to be much older.
Abilities: They can naturally see in the dark and some Shadowlings are born with the ability to influence and control shadows, though this is rare and many simply train to become Mages as almost all Shadowlings are born with the ability to preform magic.
Home and society: They reside mostly in Ilyria, which lies across the Great Western lake from Aloria. They are extremely close to their families but usually live in sprawling cities where it is easy to be anonymous. They are a reserved, quiet people and tend to be quite personal and don’t involve themselves in the issues of others. They don’t make friends easily but are usually very close to the people they know well. They are not very prone to wandering but usually return to Ilyria so if they are seen in another country they are usually passing through. They hate the other division of their race, the Daylings. Their families are extremely close knit and often operate with one another.
Religion: They have an extremely strict, stringent religion that boderline controls every aspect of their lives. There are four or five gods (depending on the region), and most are considered extremely important, though many families pledge allegiance to a certain god above all others.
Marks and magic: They can receive any Mark, though the Marks known as the Dark Marks are the most common along with the Mark of Loryin. Their magic tends to be extremely powerful but generally very unstable. Shadow magics and what are traditionally thought of as 'dark magics' are generally popular, as well as most psychic magic.
DAYLINGS
Average height: They have roughly the same height range as humans.
Average weight: They have slightly heavier builds than humans
Skin colour: Their skin colours have a slightly less large range than that of humans; their skin ranges from a medium olive to a medium ( )own.
Eye colour: Daylings have yellow, gold, amber, orange, ( )own and occasionally hazel eyes.
Hair colour: Their hair tends to be yellow or orange-ish but can also be ( )own.
Lifespan: Their lifespan is very similar to that of a human beings.
Abilities: They are born with the ability to summon fire and are much more resistant to the heat and fire than humans are. They are also often born with magic and usually follow one of the types of ancient magic.
Home and society: They live mostly in the country of Tylem but are scattered across most human countries as they get along quite well with the human race. They are a very open people who share most of what they have, even with complete strangers. They are complete opposites of the Shadowlings, usually being quite loud and outgoing. They are usually very caring and kind and are quick to forgive.
Religion: They are not a very pious people but do have many shrines to Keyran, god of the sun. He is the patron god of their people and their creation myths almost all revolve around him.
Marks and magic: They receive the same Marks as humans and almost never receive any of what are known as the Dark Marks. |
