Doll Divine is full of so many creative Writers and Role Players! So, I thought we should have a place to share the resources we use when creating our characters and worlds. I hope y'all find this post helpful and please feel free to share any and all resources you use during your creative process on the Writing and Role Playing Resources Thread I created on the Forum. You can find it on the Role Play boards under "About RP's, Interest Checks and Brianstorming."
Writing and Role Playing Resources:
The Writer: My Pinterest board dedicated to writing. Some of the resources you will find on here are:
- 100 Jobs for Fantasy Characters
- The 16 types of Governments and How They Work
- The Psychology of Color
- 200 Ways To Say "Went"
- Different Ways to Describe Hair and Skin tones
- Body Language Cheat Sheets
- Creating The Hero's Journey
- And 336 more pins that you will, hopefully, find helpful!
AT&T Natural Voices® Text-to-Speech Demo: Do you like making up your own words or names for your characters, countries and worlds but don't know if it is being pronounced correctly or how it sounds? Just type it in this demo and it will say it for you. Now this is in no way, shape or form 100% accurate, but it should give you a general idea of how that word would be pronounced.Internet Anagram Server: So you may be thinking, "Written, why would you use an anagram solver as a writing resource?" To be sneaky, of course! I love hiding "Easter Eggs" in my stories for readers to find.
Examples: Your heroic knight is searching for the mythological sword known as Shadowed Fort. Shadowed Fort is an anagram for Sword of Death. Your delightful heroine, Rhea Tweets, is known as the most beautiful, generous girl in town. Rhea Tweets is an anagram for Sweetheart. Or maybe you have been reading my story The Jorah Saga (shameless self promotion, I know) and created a Lorrae OC that lives on Rune Laright. Rune Laright is an anagram for Ruling Heart. So, throw some anagrams in to your story and see who is paying attention. Writing Generator Sites:
Chaotic Shiny: "Chaotic Shiny is a generator site aimed at people who write, game, or live in fantasy worlds of their own creation. Grappling with writer's block? Need a character on the fly? Party just walked into a tavern and you want it to be a little more exciting than normal? Want to flesh out a setting with some detailed religions? Chaotic Shiny is the site for you."
Some of my Favorite Generators on Chaotic Shiny include:
- The Map Generator
- Mottos Generator
- Potion Generator
Fantasy Name Generator (by Rink): "One of the perks of creating fantasy stories -- whether by writing a story or game or by role-playing -- is you get to make up the names. Some people relish the task while others are frustrated by it. Some like it but can't seem to create names that are diverse enough. Fantasy Name Generator is a tool that can help you. It can generate an endless number of random names (of people, places, or anything) that would be suitable for use in a fantasy setting."
Seventh Sanctum: "Since 1999 Seventh Sanctum has been your source for random generators of ideas, from story concepts to science fiction weapons to extremely silly spells. If you need ideas, inspiration, full stories, or a good laugh, then go on and enjoy!"
Some of my Favorite Generators on Seventh Sanctum include:
- Villain Generator
- Quest Items
- Anthropomorphic Animal Generator
Victorian & Steampunk Name Generator: You have the ability to choose gender, social class and name length on this generator. What I like about it, is it generates a full name--First, Middle (or initial), and Last. Pretty Spiffy!Fantasy Name Generators: I honestly consider this the Mecca of writing generator sites.
Some of the Generators you will find are:
- An Epic amount of name generators for: WOW, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc.
- Tons of fantasy name generators for: Angels, Demons, Elves, Orcs, Centaurs etc.
- A Riddle Generator
You can probably find any generator you are looking for. Including story and art ideas and concepts and a Language Generator.
Again, I hope y'all find this helpful. And please, please, please share your writing resources, tips and tricks on the thread in the forum. |
