The Jorah Saga: Prologue (Teaser)
It is inevitable. No matter the road taken, obstacles overcome or passage of time, it always ended the same way: with three deep, resonating chimes. A bell would one day signal the downfall of Jorah and Vorrell was determined to change the destiny of her people. Light swirled around her as she opened herself up to the infinite courses of destinies, fates and timelines surrounding her. Like a play, they unfolded before her jade eyes and slowly she delicately deconstructed each path hoping to find the turning point; the ember that once extinguished would prevent the chaos looming on the horizon.
“Still trying to alter the course of destiny, are we?” A soothing voice coursed through the brightness breaking Vorrell’s trance. “Finite points in times cannot be altered, Oracle. No matter how much we wish, or try--they are fixed. I swear you don’t listen to me at all. It was the first thing I taught you.”
With a wave of her hand, the timeline Vorrell was watching faded into the light. “So because this future is imminent means we give up hope? We stop trying?”
A sweet laughed echoed about her, “Of course not. It means we prepare ourselves and our people for this approaching storm. As all Oracles and Seeress have done in the past. We are no different, Vorrell.”
A heavy sigh escaped the young Oracles lips. “Even when I am sleeping you attempt to impart lessons on me. What are you doing here?”
“I’m afraid your question is rather imprecise and has infinite answers.”
Vorrell laughed, “Fine, I’ll narrow it down. What are doing in my head, Edrenn?”
A form suddenly appeared in the illuminated void and walked toward her. Edrenn’s piercing teal eyes studied her charge. “Simple,” she replied. The Seeress reached out, grabbed hold of Vorrell’s hand and twisted. “I’m waking you up.”
With a small cry the brightness she craved scattered about her and Vorrell woke into perpetual darkness. |
