Tanjia is a planet nearly the size of Neptune and whose sun is the star Procyon. This planet has two crystal moons, Ki'konia and I'Ono, that align perfectly with Tanjia and Procyon every 3,000 years. But since the moons are crystal, instead of temporarily darkening the planet, they brighten the area they eclipse. Tanjia is mostly of water, much more so than earth, and nearly all of its inhabitants display some sort of amphibious quality as it is necessary for transportation.
The humanoid inhabitants of Tanjia, the Tanjiians, are similar to humans in a few ways, but in other ways, they are quite different. A Tanjiian female is usually between seven and seven a half feet tall, where males are between seven and a half to eight feet tall. Unlike human blood, Tanjiian blood is purple and very thin. Because Tanjia is mostly water, the Tanjiian can survive underwater for a much longer time than humans by having a greater lung capacity and being able to store oxygen in their muscles. They also possess a second transparent eyelid, similar to crocodiles, though Tanjiians are far from reptilian.
Because of the way they take care of their planet, their diet and the speed with which Tanjia orbits Procyon, Tanjiians live much longer than humans. Several thousands of years longer. An average life span for a healthy Tanjiian is around 150,000 years, almost 100,000 earth years.
Our story is told from the perspective of the young Empress-to-be, Ka'asume, who was born with a very special gift. The ability to control water! But she must keep her ability a secret in order to avoid being used as a weapon and to continue her duty to protect Tanjia's resources and rare animals.
These "Protectors of Tanjia" are scarce and there is usually only one on the planet at a time. But in this rare case, Ka'asume had a mentor to teach her how to use her ability and to be selfless in protecting the planet and its creatures. Her mentor was also her grandmother, the former Empress of Tanjia.
Ka'asume's path is difficult one, especially considering her tyrant father, Emperor Ko'tuno. He despises that Ka'asume is his firstborn. He sees her gentle nature as weakness and finds her unfit to be his successor, which is the law since she was the firstborn, so he is intentionally cruel to her in hopes that she will give up her birthright to succeed him to her younger twin brothers, Ma'olu and Koa. His hatred of his daughter is intense and he refuses to see her as the future Empress to the point of treating her like one of the palace servants and giving her physically harsh treatment.
I hope that you continue to read my Tales of Tanjia and see how Ka'asume's future unfolds. |
