A Guide to the World of Edge: Quick Explanations of Gods, History and the World
The World of Edge and Apocrypha
Q. What is Edge?
A. Edge is simply the name of the world the story takes place on. Edge is a muticultural name for the worldas decided in the ages of mortals. There are other names for it however.
Q. What are the other names for Edge?
A. The old name that the High Elves called Edge is still used on old calenders and by the wood elves (to an extent), fae and Dreamers. The old name for Edge was Theia.
Q. What are the coutries of Edge?
A. Hollandiris (far west), the Faelands (west, seperated from Hollandiris by ocean), the Great Forest (from east of the Faelands to west of Empirias), Aisling (south of the Faelands, seperated by a sea), Empirias (east of the Great Forest), Kokaria (south Empirias), the Wastes (far north).
Q. Who are the High Elves?
A. The High Elves were the forebearers of all elven races. That means moon elves, wood elves and sun elves are all decended from them. In each of the modern elven realms there are still ruins of old cities and temples the High Elves built. While much of their history has been lost their magic and knowledge lives on.
Q. Where are the cities of the High Elves?
A. There were four (major) cities. Hyperion, Selene, Helios and Eos. The capital city, Hyperion, was built deep in what is now the Great Forest of the Wood Elves. While structures have been found the city itself remains lost. Selene, the city of the wealthy and of revelries was built on a long sundered island off the coast of modern day Empirias. All that remains is a lone structure called the Tatterd Spire. Helios was the city built mainly for warfare and for the army and was located in the south of Hollandiris. The city is located somewhere in what has become the Dead Lands. None have ever gotten close to finding it. Eos is the only city that is known and still inhabited though has since been split in two. Eos was the Holy City and located in northern Empirias. The city has since become both The Midden and Eos proper above ground. The original stuctures are still used for the Arcane University even with more recent additions to the city. The rest of the city is underground in the Midden and lies in ruins.
Q. What are the Gods of the world like?
A. The Gods of Apocrypha's Edge are beings of incredible power that exist beyond the normal perception of mortals. (they cannot be see but can be heard/felt)
Q. What are Aspects?
A. Aspects are like back up Gods. Imagine a beautiful vase, but you ( )eak it, so you need to put all the water into a smaller, less pretty vase. The Aspect is this smaller vase.
Q. What are Seers?
A. Seers were the women (and sometimes men) who spoke to the Gods for the people. However, the Gods have long since abandoned mortality.
Q. What are Thrones?
A. Thrones are the AE equivalent to biblical angels.
Q. What are Saints?
A. Saints are mortal beings who are either connected to a God by blood, chosen at birth by one of their Gods or simply people of impossible magical ability.
Q. What is the Aether?
A. Aether is just another name for magic :) So you can use it to say things like "She pulled fire from the Aether" instead of "She cast a fire spell".
Q. What are the Sorrows meantioned in the prologue?
A. Simply put, the Sorrows are Valanora's left over magical energy rippling across the universe. Totally not anything more to them.
Q. What is the War of the Gods?
A. The war of the Gods was a great battle between the Divinities that eventually dragged in all other Gods as they fought for the right to be the King of Gods and take the throne of Apocrypha. It was started when Eden, a neutral God, upset the balance of Light and Dark and took power for himself and the God, Valanora. While Evanura and Um( )a still fought each other they created an alliance to defeat Valanora and Eden. Evanura eventually turned on Um( )a and took power himself.
Q. What is Apocrypha?
A. Apocrypha is the realm of infinate magic and power. It exists as a huge golden city to the Gods and a mass of colours and crazy to mortal minds. Simply glimpsing it can drive someone insane/.
Q. Who is Valanora?
A. The Gods of Secrets, Dreams and Dawn for the most part. That's not all he simply is of course. There is always more to everything than meets the eye. Keep and eye out for him in the story as he'll pop up from time to time!
Q. What are the Void Years?
A. The Void Years were whe the Court of Shadows, led by the God of Darkness and Goddess of the Moon, took over the world and blotted out the sun. This lasted thousands of years and if it wasn't for ancient technology made by the High Elves and the magic of the peoples the world would have died.

FUN FACTS
Language
There are several languages I have been working on. How well these languages work however is yet to be tested. The main language is the Elven language but, there will be others too. As for already existing languages that may be used for names and such in story there are specifics for each race. Under no circumstances must use any Japanese, Chinese or east asian names simply because there are no places in the world that are even remotely based off these areas. Thus for the sake of things making sense do not do this. If you have done so please rename your OC. This is a very important and Lore-Breaking thing, I hope you understand :)
Moon Elves (Empirias)- European names, mainly French, German and some Italian. Basic elven names from other fantasy worlds can be used.
Sun Elves (Hollandiris)- Most names are based around names found in central Asian countries and cultures.
Fae- Celtic, Gaelic and made up names.
Wood Elves- Celtic and Gaelic names once again. I don't mind if you give them names from other pre-existing elven languages.
Ieeren-Draconis- Made up names mostly, but also East Eurpoean names/Slavic names.
Common Elven
A= U B= V C= P D= J E= I F= L G= T H= R I= E J= M
K= W L= S M= Q N= Y O= A P= C Q= Z R= F S= B T= H
U= O V= N W= Y X= K Y= G Z= X
Ancient Elven/High Elven
A= Deh B= Ill C= Men D= Fel E= Has F= Ren G= Nee H= Pai I= Una J= Ons
K= Qun L= Ven M= Wes N= Gen O= Yol P= Zev Q= Kai R= Bel S= Tei T= Let
U= Ane V= Jai W= Ses X= Ene Y= Cen Z= Zix
When constructing words, remove any triple letters however this is probably impossible to occur (I have tried to construct it so this does not happen but we all make mistakes). When English words have double letters only use one. If the word is long add a ' between every third letter like ====> Zevunagen'qunbelyol'illunagen (Pin-kRo-bin). As we can see it was a very wordy language which can mean it is hard to read or just kinda boring. It is not spoken in modern Empirias and is used by scholars as a kinda of code and is studied! The only reasons this language may come up is if there is ancient text that needs to be read.
Elven Words/Meanings/Naming Cipher (or Wood Elf Language)
First of all, this doesn't need to be used to name your OCs nor do you need to know the ins and outs to use it (I don't myself). The Elven language has developed so much over the years on Edge that ANY name from ANY culture/language can be used for mostly everyone. Of course particular races have their own preferences for naming.
This is the spoken language of the elves and yes, they do name people using this method as well. It's kinda like calling your child River :) First some basic words if you wish to use them in anything you ever write (if you feel inclined to do so ^^)
