Shadowbourne: Formed from ash from the burning of Death and aided by golems shaped from his bones, these women are caught at the bounds of life and death, good and evil. Tasked by the Soulfather, his Magnificent Light, Maker of Life, they forever watch the Intermedia, where souls await their judgement. Before any soul has a chance to enter the Halls of the Soulfather, they must endure this twilight realm, where the failed, fallen and broken are trapped for eternity. The Shadowbourne now fufill the role of their fleshfather Death and keep these Lost in check. 

The Intermedia: The landscape of the Intermedia is dominated by the River of Souls seperating the two halves. The Halfdark is where the Shadowbourne and waiting soul reside, while the Riverdark where the Lost are banished to. The River of Souls carries new souls in, and the battle to defend these souls and bring them into the Halfdark before the Lost steal them away always rages.

Death: Aradyanna, Queen of the Intermedia

As the firstformed, Aradyanna has taken the name of the fleshfather as her title. She has also taken responsibility for all her sisters, acting as the point of contact between the Shadowbourne and the Soulfather's children. Though often busy with all of her duties, she always knows when trouble brews in the Intermedia, and quickly dispatches her sisters to defend the realm.

Companion: Made from the bones of a ram and the spine of the fleshfather, Aries is the Queen's most loyal guardian and messenger. He never leaves her side unless a guardian he approves of is present. Aries attends every meeting Aradyanna does, bringing news to the other Shadowbourne and golems.

Scales: Kalyran, Guardian of the Halfdark

In charge of the physical defense of the Halfdark, Kalyran heads the fleet that patrols the River of Souls. They rescue any souls they find and destroy the Lost where they break through the wards. Kalyran fights and carries herself with grace, and inspires her forces daily. She is the Queen's right hand, and acts as such, never afraid to make a hard decision.

Companion: Partly made from the bones of a shark, the arms of the fleshfather, and shards of the ram Aries was born of, Capricorn is always in contact with his brother. He patrols the river with his mistress, often using the river to hide and ambush their enemies.

Night: Palante, Matron of the Halfdark

Palante is the second eldest Shadowbourne, and acts like a mother to each. Her duty is to watch over the souls waiting for judgement, and maintain peace between them.  Many types of soul enter the Intermedia seeking eternal rest, and many conflict with each other. She is dutiful, and ensures every soul is happy. She also mediates between any Shadowbourne who have conflicts with each other. Palante acts as the Queen's left hand, managing the majority of internal affairs.

Companion: Virgo is a combination of the legs of the fleshfather and of a child. She is clingy and loving, and often tries to cheer up souls of parents leaving behind children. She also runs errands for Palante, and enjoys playing with Taylra and Lepus.

Blood: Maryle, Priestess of the Halfdark

In charge of maintaining the warding of the River of Souls to keep the Lost out of the Halfdark, Maryle is aloof and intense. She takes her duty very seriously and rarely rests as much as she should. Often tired, she can be quick to anger, but is in fact only concerned for all of her sisters. She works closely with Kalyran, and the two make an elegant and efficient pair. 

Companion: A mix of the skull of the fleshfather and a cat, Leo follows Maryle, watching to ensure she does not overexert herself. As aloof as her mistress, she only seems interested in Maryle's well-being.

Shade: Taylra, Child of the Intermedia

Taylra is the youngest Shadowbourne, and more flighty than any other. She has no explict duty, doing what she likes nearly every day. However, she was made with ashes mostly from what was left of the fleshfather's heart. She inherently controls the Intermedia, and what happens to her happens to the land. The Queen recognizes this, and lets her do what keeps her happy and at peace. Taylra also feels the most love for her sisters and the souls they safeguard, and is easly influenced by emotion.

Companion: Lepus is a combination of the ribs of the fleshfather and of a small hare. She is a free spirit like her mistress, but just as caring. She and Taylra play daily, often with the souls of children waiting to enter the Halls of the Soulfather.

Bone: Dalyasa, Maid of the Riverdark

A mysterious woman, Dalyasa lives in Riverdark, with no companions but her golem. She gathers information on the Lost, sending back any information on gatherings of plans that threaten the Halfdark. She fights the Lost daily, and enjoys it. Her messages are often cryptic, and she writes as though she is a Lost herself at times. Her persona almost seems broken, yet behind it reads a devious mind.

Companion: Formed of the fingers of the fleshfather and the spine of a great snake, Draco is a slippery beast. Though he carries back Dalyasa's messages, he can disappear for days before returning. He is as cunning as his mistress, and as mysterious.

Crest: Tyalana, Siren of the Intermedia

Tasked to protect the River alongside and underneath Kalyran's fleet, Tyalana also keeps an eye on the wards. She also moniters the dark creatures who try to drag themselves up from the River's bottom, where the energy of so many souls breeds strange beasts. She fights them alone, rarely needing back-up. Her voice entrhalls the beasts, luring them through the barriers to be disolved. As the only aquatic Shadowbourne, she is rather independent, and has the most respect for Kalyran.

Companion: Pisces was born of the collarbones of the fleshfather and those of a great fish. He is completely loyal to Tyalana, also unable to leave the River. He will help lure beasts to Tyalana, unafraid of danger. He also aids Capricorn and Kalyran in their assaults when Tyalana permits it.
