In this world, Men are not alone.
Before Men, there were the Éyldyon, the Elder Folks, the Faes. And before them, the Old Gods. And from the Old Gods, came the Nephilians.
Nephilians, Nephelians, the Nephilim, when sons of God came in to the daughters of Men. As how the name speaks for itself, the offspring of unions between Old Gods and mortal men. The Old Gods, these celestial beings, are devoid of benevolence and malevolence, so are their decedents. In our language, they are called, vampires, witches, warlocks, sorcerers and...nephilims. As ironical it is, the Nephilians do not distinguish good and evil among themselves, for good and evil is a term for mortals. But men are MADE to believe the good and evil between them, that is just how men see the world as we are. The Nephilians are neutral, aloof, and they act according to their nature. Some may seem amiable, some dislike men, but men are always a resource for them to exploit, to rule over.
Vampires, in the decedents of the Old Gods, are known as the Lylthians (Li-thian). However, it is unfair to associate the Children of the Night to the lowly undead. Vampires are in nature, reanimated corpses, come back from the dead and hunt the living for the one thing they no long have but crave the most, life. The tales of vampire or vampiric creatures can be traced in many cultures of the world, as Jiangshi in Chinese and Aswang in the Filipinos. The origin of the undead is unknown, and they maybe a natural of this world. I personally have hunted down many with the Guild, and they, the majority of them, are creatures thrive on their primitive instincts.
The Lylthians are so much more. Beautiful, cunning and dangerous beings, the devil would be proud of this creation. But in the land of Twilight, god and devil do not exist. The Children of the Night came to being when a union was formed between Kanu (ka-Noo), the old god of death and Myraim (mi-la-Im), a mortal woman who was said be descended from a tear shed by Amainna, the goddess of night of the old pantheon. The Old Gods are beings beyond time but men are mortal, one day the god of death must take his beloved away. The god Kanu cannot stand this idea, he wished to share his immortality with his mortal b.ride, thus the god erased the name Myraim from the Book of Life and Death. This action violated the law of gods. As immortality is the gift of gods and gods do not share it with mortal men. Myraim was lost in limbo between life and death, and Kanu was sealed away. Myraim’s sister and b.rother went into limbo to save their sister, but they too, were lost.
Amainna and Asatama, the old goddesses of night and moon, took pity in their plight. The two goddesses b.rought back Myraim and her siblings, but they can no longer live as mortal men. So the goddesses gave them another state of being.
Myraim, the b.ride of death and her siblings became the original three Innunnas, those who came from the dark. The first queen’s siblings are never named, but only known as the Sister and the Brother. Each of the three sired one clan, from Myraim came the Inn, from the Sister came the Tama, and the Brother, the Dara. The three main clans may have b.ranched into minor clans, that we do not know. But the evidence they may had been so is that, the Lylthians, in old times, were led by a council of twelve. Three Elders from each clan, the queen of Tama, the king of Dara, and the queen of Inn as the High Queen that governed them all. At some point, the Dara, being supported by the second High Queen Mynerva of Inn, announced independence and took the name, Dāmian. Soon after, the Queens' War among the descendants of the old gods nearly wiped out the existence of the Lylthians and Dāmians.
The Lylthians, due to their affinity to the death and night, cannot produce offspring of their own, they can only turn a life into their kind. For the same reason, they cannot walk in open daylight. But there are artifacts allowing them to do so.
The royalty of the Lylthians possess a power of domination. It is an umb.rella title for a series power they are able to preform. The basic concept is that s/he is able to bend the elements to her/his will. A Lylthian royalty is able to control the structure of her or his residential area, forming an independent space. To do this the royal Lylthian must dwell in an certain structure for a period of time, and this structure must have significance to this royal Lylthian. Thus the royal Lylthian is able to extend part of her/himself to the structure and bend it to her/his will. The structure would collapse if its host are severely wounded or dead. For a particular powerful undead I have hunted, his castle showed similar trace when I put him to sleep. It may be hypothesized the origin of this particular undead is link to the Children of the Night. The domination power also extend to mind control.
Only two, to be specific three, Lylthians of royal blood have been identified till today. One, the heiress to the royal throne of night, the lady of fear and the dark lady herself, Al-īnna Innunna. Two, is the b.rother to the princess's Ama, the third queen, Lord of Secrets, Mylos Innunna. The third is in fact the leader of Dāmians, Marcellus Dāmṣadū (dahm-Tsa-doo), Lion of the West, who is also a recognised offspring of Queen Mynerva, the second queen.
The Lylthians, their royalties especially, holds a strict hierarchy. The royalties and Elders had so much power over the lesser but in turn, they were bound by duty. They put up a cold and stony face but their feelings are expressed in a sophisticate manner. The Lylthians in fact feel the deepest but show the least. They are nobles, elegant and intelligent, sensitive souls for aesthetic, art, music and literature. But their bodies and minds are strong as steel. They are considered evil mostly due to they feed on blood and can sometimes be unsympathetic to humans. For humans, we keep sheep, cows and pigs as livestock, we cared for them before eating them, does it make men good or evil? The only reason we fight them is survival, as our ancestors had driven the lions and wolves into the forests, also as our ancestors had forced the elderfolks into twilight. The Faes, those who chose to diminish and move on, we praise them as good. But for those who fought and refuse to leave, we immediately scorn them as evil. If one day, in the future, men were to be replaced by another race, what will we do?
As predators, Lylthians are strong ones. Their patronesses granted them strength as well as beauty, everyone of them I have encountered so far are beautiful, handsome looking. Alinna Innunna, the heiress to this ancient royalty, possesses an unearthly beauty. Her physical form is undoubtedly feminine, but inside her lives a man, a king of old, a warrior, which gives her aura a masculine edge. Her masculine side is more obvious in her choice of clothing. She is somehow a dashing prince and an graceful princess all together, or else I would not have fallen under her charm.
Mylos Innunna is a gentleman of dignity and kingly visage. Both the Innunnas have pure black hair. The Lord of Secrets has icy blue eyes. Sharp lines defined his short and board jaw, straight nose, well-sculptured in manners of ancient Greek bast, he would make a great module for a sculptural of Poseidon. A men of great knowledge and wisdom, and it is said that whatsoever he wishes to conceal, none shall unearth that secret.
Marcellus Dāmṣadū, on the contrary, is a warrior by birth, a warrior king none the less. His beauty is savage, his elegance cruel, his mere presence is said to turn the mortal blood cold, and render heart and flesh. I have never met this being in person, nor on battlefield. One who does described the legionary as “the living incarnation of Ares in Apollo’s body. His hair framed his head like lion’s mane, dancing like white flame. His eyes, within them the fire of hell is burning, are ever devoid of life and mercy. ” In life he is said to be a Roman legionary, and the blood of the old gods expend not only his strength and battle skills, also his cunningness.
Apart from the royalty, five loyal knights are said to have served the queens. The first and foremost among them, is Talbot Garazid, Talbot the first knight. He, like his predecessor, serves the heiress loyally, and accompanied her into many battles, and saved her many times. The second knight, according to legends, went into the northern snows, to attend to an affair of the Dorven royals, and was never heard of again. The third and forth knights guard the hidden temple where the Sister and Brother rest. The temple’s location remain obscure till this day. The fifth knight is lost, both in records and legends, and perhaps shall remain hidden till the end of time.
Should a hunter find himself come to face with one of their kind, do not engage in fight immediately. Often times they may not be hostile, and can be talked out of a situation. Should one be found harming people or disturbing peace in mortal world. A hunter shall pursue this being to the point he cross the border, or to his elimination. The Children of Night possess extraordinary speed, strength and reflex. Fire arm is a good compensation to human limitation, but note that only Pure Silver bullets can cause real damage. In close combat, a hunter should aim for the head of his foe, and again, use weapon coated with Litêllā. Take in mind that the sun and fire is always at our side, use the environment wisely, and let the natural order do its work. |
