Antre
Antre is a very wet region, but they have learned to cultivate silk worms to produce fine silk. Despite the final product, producing silk is not a glamorous job. Antre has been having trouble lately as many of the young adults are leaving for work elsewhere. In many regions this would be unthinkable culturally, but Antre has always had a looser sense of ‘home’ than many regions. Many of the young people who remain behind in Antre are becoming bitter at their lot in life. They don’t know that conditions are far worse in many other regions.

Bascalin is the capitol city. It is temperate and urbanized. They import most of their foods. It is a city of learning, filled with lawyers, doctors, and professors. There are also many merchants selling goods traded from all over the country. They are a very proud people who consider themselves to be vastly superior to the unsophisticated outlying regions…despite the fact that they completely depend on them for survival.

Presenting Cyrilla Frostthorn, the proud firstborn daughter of the most influential merchant in the region, Delvin son of Dinfar son of Dane of the ancient blooded family of Frostthorn. Cyrilla was raised in privilege, spending her days in the conservative capitol honing her charm and wit to attract a husband worthy of her. However, under all her charm, she hides a frosty demeanor born out of resentment towards her family for treating her like an object her whole life as well as a fear of a relationship with another person. Her mother, a member of the imperial court, personally trained her daughter in the ways of a courtier, assurring her daughter the best of educations as well as a ( )oad background in the arts. Cyrilla, though well versed in many schools of thought, seems to only have an appreciation for music, something she holds dearer to herself than anything else. She is an accomplished pianist, and sings as well, though only when she's sure she is alone. As her mother says, "For every passion a woman reveals, for every truth a man discovers, another chip is made in the armor of her influence."

Chastry is a tropical region ideal for growing all fruits. This is their main export and source of income. Chastries are generally friendly and easygoing. They value openness and are usually willing to give a helping hand. They are also less competitive than other regions. They have faith that their fruit is important, and don’t feel a need to prove their worth to other regions.

Elgra is a fierce people. They used to be comprised of many tribes that fought among themselves. Even now there are very strong rivalries between different clans. But now they are united. They still raise strong warriors. They defend the empire from enemies to the southwest. The area is desert, and most of the people live gathered around small oases. The Elgra never ignore an insult quietly.

Foushe is a lush region best known for growing rice. They have a strong rivalry with the Hesh to the northwest, who provide the empire with wheat. Both regions feel that their crop is more important to the survival of the empire. The Foushe have a highly collectivist culture, placing the survival of the group over that of the individual. They value fitting into the group and not standing out over much.

Zhai Nii (or just Nii to non-Foushan people) is a girl of 21 who comes from a well-to-do family of Foushe. She's still very young at heart and in personality, as she is a bit naive and dependant, since she was raised in an interdependent country. She loves gardening with her sisters, and was sent to the Emporer because she was the most willing among the unmarried maidens. Despite her naivety, she is very ( )ave and handy with medicine . Kretrin
The Kretrin don’t really have a pinpoint spot on a map. They are nomadic and travel all over the empire. They serve as traders, swapping furs in the far north for jewelry in the far south, and everything in between. They tend to be distrustful of non-Kretrins, but they are always civil to everyone. They come off as very private to outsiders, but among their own social groups they are quite open.

Lestria
Lestria is made of temperate grassland run through with rivers. The land is made of clay, which makes agriculture very difficult. They have to import much of their food. But they do have lots of clay, and they have become wonderful potters. The best earthen works in the empire come from Lestria. Lestrians are generally willing to live uncomplicated lives. The person who tries to exceed their station is frowned upon.

Nyph is in the middle of a hard wood forest. Because of this, they have become wonderful carpenters. They are known throughout the land for their woodworking abilities. Most children are trained in a specific form of woodwork from the time they are ten. Those who do not receive special training usually become lumberjacks, which is a much less desirable career path.

Ostreel
Ostreel uses the metal mined from Tarsa and wood from Nyph to make the strongest weapons in the empire. Many of these weapons are traded to the warrior Elgra, but their products go all over the empire. Ostreel are fastidious, but also really like to carouse and drink on their days off.

Phitra
Phitra is a temperate area filled with rolling hills. It is best known for its wine, which is celebrated throughout the empire. They are largely self-sufficient in terms of food, but rely on the capitol Bascalin for many of their other necessities. They are a fairly easygoing people, more interested in enjoying life than in making a profit, which suits their trade partners just fine.

Thera Undonae of Phitra
Thera is an easy going, friendly, protective, and lively woman. She loves helping her father with his wine trade by running the household and the family's vineyard when her father is away on business. Her mother died when she was ten so when her father is away its just her and her little ( )other who is younger then her by one year. Thera is adventurous and wants to see the world before she takes over her family's business. She has the most beautiful voice in all of Phitra so she sings and dances wherever she goes. She is also very good at playing the flute and Erhu which she learned from her mother. She is a great cook and baker and makes the most delicious sweet cakes which she sells in their wine shop. Thera is 21 and she has a lot she wants to do, falling in love and traveling happens to be on her list of future possibilities. She has always been content with the life she has, but she feels as if something is missing. She decides she wants to try for the opportunity to become the wife of one of the princes to see if she can fill the missing piece of her life and find love at the same time.

Prendit
Prendit is a temperate, coastal community. They are less populous than many of the other regions, but the exercise a disproportionate amount of control. This is because they are the empire’s main shipwrights. They build, sail, and navigate the ships that trade up and down the empire, and even venture to other lands to gain more exotic goods. They also defend the empire by sea, keeping any ambitious enemies at bay. Prendit people like to travel the world, but they love to come home, too. They are a close-knit community that work to support each other at all times.

Tanaris lives in the coastal region of the Iande Empire, Prendit. (She usually goes by Tana.) She had to learn to defend her home, and she did. She usually keeps her fiery red hair in ( )aids to keep it out of the way and mostly untangled. It lets her show off her freckles and angular nose. Usually wearing short sleeves or none, it lets her show off her tattoos, and the three scars on her other arm. If you couldn't tell already, she's quite a proud person. She's fiercely loyal to the people who deserve it, and the people she loves, but can be rather rambunctious, and acts without thinking. Her father has lost count of how many times she's launched into battle without much more than a kitchen knife (which was what she had at the time.) Her father and her younger ( )other are so important to her. She'd die in their place if it came to that. She works down at the docks, and a ship that she fixed up called the 'Serenity' is her baby. She loves to sail out into the bay at sunset (which is her favorite time of the day). She found her double ( )oad swords on a raid, and fell in love with them. She's maintained their condition ever since.

Qan
The islands of Qan are mostly known for their fishing. Being island people, they are very good at it. They are a gregarious people who value a good story as much as hard work. In fact, all of the islands have a tendency to tell fantastic tall tales. Other regions find this either tedious or entertaining. But the Qan like their islands, and don’t often venture beyond them.

Makani Layn
Makani's father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all famed hunters of the great Thra-Pena. To this day there are still tales shared of their shark-hunting conquests. But ultimately, all three men, as well as most others that hunt the legendary beast, were lost at sea at an early age, leaving Makani's mother to raise her and her twin younger ( )others to fend for themselves for eight years until her mother remarried a village leader.
Makani, for her part, learned early to look after her younger siblings while her mother made a living weaving fishing nets. Once her ( )others were old enough to help with the weaving (thus keeping them mostly out of trouble), Makani was sent off to help on the neighbors catamaran, learning the fishing trade along with the neighbors own daughters who soon became her closest friends. She continued this even after her mother remarried, and is quite handy on a boat.
Like most people of Qan, she can be quite superstitious at times, particularly when it comes to having good luck fishing. She carries several totems with her at any given time, each with a personal story as to why this bauble, or this pendant will supposedly ( )ing in more fish. The three shark's teeth on he ( )acelets, however, are totems of a different sort, ( )inging us to the current situation of the Emperor’s three sons.
These teeth are all sharks Makani has gone out of her way to kill, nearly losing her arm in the process one time. If asked, she'll explain 'one child of Thra-Pena's for each of my family the monster has killed'. This resolution worries her step-father in particular, and as such he petitioned strongly for her assignment as Qan's eligible maiden for the princes, if only to get her away from the sea and Thra-Pena's hunting grounds before she can attempt something more foolish. The council of Qan's leaders eventually agreed, but convincing Makani herself was a different story as she had no desire to leave the islands for some pageant. She was eventually convinced, however, when her step-father presented her with her own catamaran, a privilege not normally given to a woman of her young age. Thus, she sails upriver to Bascalin aboard her own ship, headstrong as ever, but at least out of danger...for now.<( ) /> Age: 23

Rixier
Rixier is known for their fantastic clothes. Many of their people are talented tailors and seamstresses. They make the finest clothes in the empire. The average citizen of the empire cannot afford their work, but anyone who can afford it will invest the money, as it is a sure sign of prestige. They learned the skill out of necessity, since their region is near the polar region Wenth, and they needed to learn how to create warm clothes to protect themselves, especially during the long winters.

Corasara of Rixier is 15 years old. She is very competitive and stubborn, and doesn't give up easily. From a young age, she was raised to take care of herself, and she acts tough to convince her family, as well as everyone else, that she can. On the inside, she is caring and gentle, but has hard time letting herself act that way. What she really needs is someone who truly likes her for who she is. She knows she will be one of the very youngest girls competing, which she views as just another reason for her to be extra tough and competitive. Her mother is a widely renowned seamstress and her father is a talented shoe-maker. Corsara /loves/ weaving and em( )oidery and is very talented at it. She also likes actual sewing and is good at it, though not great compared to many people in Rixier.

Tarsa
Tarsa is a mountainous region known for their mining of metals and precious gems. They are not as rich as the cultures that use their metals and gems, but they do alright. Tarsans tend to be somewhat uncommunicative and slow to warm up to people, but they are very loyal.

Marishka (Marie) Blackstone of Tarsa
Marishka (Marie) is a 21 year old woman, in training to become a foreman under her father in their successful iron mine. While not as prosperous as those who mine gold and silver, the universal demand for iron has left them fairly wealthy. She has two ( )others, 19 and 15, the elder of whom is training to run the business. Though Marie is clever, she'd rather work alongside the men than have to run numbers all day. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, she often leaves the mine sweaty and dusty.
Loyal to both her family and her crew, she has dealt swiftly with emergencies that have arisen within the mines, even putting herself in harms way if need be. This has won her the loyalty of many men, and when the call went out for eligible women, many offered her as a candidate. While Marie is not pleased to leave the role she has worked so hard to succeed in, she is ready to ( )ing honor to her family if that is how the princes see fit.
Overall, Marie is a very loyal woman once you have earned her respect. Should you be foolish or insincere, she will barely speak with you, though she will not let such a person come to harm. To those who show strength and ( )avery, she will do her best to aid them in their endeavors, and have a drink with them at the end of the work day.

Thand
While Tarsa mines the gems and metal, Thand has learned how to use it to its best advantage. They make the most luxurious jewelry in the empire. Delicate and refined, but also tough and resilient, it is impossible to get better jewelry. People from Thand are both well-off and pround, for good reason. They also tend to be overachievers bent on perfection.

Kasha Talenze
Kasha Talenze, a proud young maiden born into a mildly wealthy family of a mother, father, and two daughters. Her parents are both fine jewelers, and she is a jeweler in training. Her younger sister Anaree is not quite old enough to learn, though. To Kasha, and most of the rest of the region, jewelrymaking is a passion. She is somewhat a perfectionist, which is helpful in her occupation but causes her to dwell too much on other tasks in her everyday life. Stubborn and competitive, Kasha has her flaws, but she is fiercely loyal and has a good heart. She considers appearance to be a priority and often wears many accessories, although this doesn't mean fifteen necklaces on at one time! She loves dancing and playing the flute, and loves the color burgundy.

Vandrea
Vandrea stretches from the sea into the mountains. Their main livelihood comes from rugged goats in the mountains and sheep in the lowlands. They rely on the meat and dairy from the animals for their own survival. They also make exquisite cheeses from the goats that they trade to their neighbors. But even more important than their famous Vandrean cheeses is their wool. They have the finest wool in the empire, and they extract high prices for it. Vandreans value peace and knowing when to hold your tongue.

Senaria is usually quiet, but can have a temper, she works with her father on a dairy farm, and owns many fine fur coats. She loves the outdoors, and riding her horse on what terrain is available.
Senaria's mother sold and traded fine furs with the royals up until the day she died. Ever since, Senaria has always made fur coats and sold and traded them just like her mother wanted. Although she is not very social, she longs for a happy and quiet relationship with someone who appreciates fine furs as well as academic studies.
Her father wishes her happiness, but also to carry on their goat milk business with the other regions after he dies.

Wenth
Wenth is a polar region, filled with ice and snow year round. To live here you have to be tough. The main means of support in this area is hunting. This provides food to eat and fur to trade. Wenthian fur is considered a luxury in most of the empire and is highly prized. The hunter who can kill an animal with minimal damage to the fur is well respected in Wenth.

Lyla Katana of Wenth
Lyla was born into a middle class family, in the main village of Wenth. Her mother died in childbirth, so Lyla grew up with just a father and an older ( )other, who are both hunters. Her main female influence growing up was Mrs. Byin, a wealthy woman who lives just a mile away. When Lyla was 12, she began to work for Mrs. Byin, looking after and tutoring her two children, Myrie and Nol. Though she is not related by blood, Lyla is a big part of the Byin family. When Mr. and Mrs. Byin heard that Lyla may have an oppurtunity to marry a prince, they made sure that Lyla would be able to participate, giving her the funds that she needed to get to Bascalin. <( ) /> Lyla is very shy and quiet, but she is absolutely ready to face this challenge, as she has always wanted to leave Wenth and find her own place in the world.<( ) /> Lyla loves children and books more than almost anything else in the world. <( ) /> She might not look it, but she's pretty tough when she needs to be.

Ytria
Ytria is another tropical region, but this one is less cultivated than Chastry. Instead of growing plants for consumption, they go through the jungle harvesting from the plants that have already taken root on their own. They collect spices which are highly prized across the empire. If you have only ever had salt to flavor your foods, a little bit of pepper or nutmeg can be quite an amazing thing. They do not like to socialize with the other regions, and even their trade is done by a select few. Most Ytrians have never even seen a non-Ytrian.

Symelia lives in the tropical region of Iande. She is an opposite of the other Ytrians, they are less cultured, but Symelia is very eager for all knowledge she can get. She lives with his dad and younger sister, Katarina, in a small wooden cottage. She is quite happy with her life; she goes daily in to the rain forest to collect. She is a huge help for the workers in Ytria, she knows shortcuts all over the forest and she has the best knowledge about all the plants that grow on Ytria. She is very ( )ave; she always wants to make her father proud and to give her sister a good life, after their mother died. That means she takes a lot of her sisters work as her own. She doesn’t know a lot of other people besides the forest workers, what makes her a bit less socialized, and she has to learn a lot about people and their idiosyncrasies. But she likes to learn it, she is very curious and a good person. She has a weakness for flowers and nature, not only the nature around Ytria, she wants to travel the world and see a lot of places.

Zyle
Zyle is a forested are that has developed an odd form of industry. They have become glass workers. They create everything from durable windowpanes to delicate decorative baubles. They value patience and a light touch. They tend to be a private people, and the rest of the empire doesn’t know as much about them as other regions.

ávra orage is one of the most prestigious glassmakers in zyle, despite the fact she is one of the youngest masters and her clan is not at all reputable for glassmaking. she is self taught, and many of her works have been displayed in bascalin, even in the royal palace (from delicate stained glass scenes to ( )illiant baubles). ávra crafted her skill at a young age, when she realized she had a talent with handling glass. she went to masters in the dead of the night to learn their secrets, secrets they had revealed to no one else. in the end she created a craft uniquely her own, one that no one has been able to replicate.
as for ávra’s personality; she could be described as “ a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma;” she is mute, but her silence is by her choice, and she is not shy. many speculate it is to keep her secrets and techniques from spilling out, but others do not think this is the case. she has a critical, sharp eye, but is not very expressive, speaking in mostly her eyes and with small, mona-lisa like smiles. she is a silent rebel, and resists most types of authority. she is confident with a dash of perfectionism, but lacks any arrogance, although an introvert more than anything else, with an inclination towards disliking most people.<( ) /> she lives alone, but has a mother, father, and two adopted siblings (a ( )other and a sister) that all live together. she lives in the glassmaker’s quarters, while they live in the familial quarters.
