Aen'Chaied'Fouilh is the ceremony where a maiden and a virginal male make love for the first time with each other. This means that it must be each of their first times making love at all, not just the first time they have done it together. This ceremony is only practiced in the lands of the Firean (the northern realm), where they still pray to the ancient gods and worship in grottos and groves. When the ceremony is complete the man is the woman's Grae'Foule and the woman is the man's Laennyn'Foule. Aen'Chaied'Fouilh is a blood rite though not just in the typical sense. During the process of lovemaking, the man and woman both slash their palms with a dagger and then tie those hands together for the entire ceremony. Although it is looked on rather skeptically among those who do not keep to the old ways, this exchange of blood is thought to make the couples' heartbeats sync and help them feel each other's emotions and needs. This is why an individual enters into such an extreme grieving period when their Grae' or Laennyn'Foule dies. |
