One minute left... I stared as the watch on my wrist turned from minutes to seconds. I have to get ready.
I flew to my closet, throwing off my pajamas and rifling through my clothes to find the perfect outfit. It could be anyone...what should I say to them? This feels like a fairytale...
Finally I managed to settle on a nice green floral printed dress, white lace tights and headband, and a cute pair of pink shoes to ( )ing out the color of the roses on my dress. I checked my watch again. 30 seconds...I should head outside.
I almost tripped as I sprinted from my room out the front door and onto my driveway, growing more nervous by the minute. The sky was a pale lavender, and a few leftover stars twinkled merrily. Then I saw him.
He looked just as confused as I was, standing with one hand tucked into his pajama pants. He was by no means the perfect specimen, but had an endearingly awkward look about him. I walked up to him, shaking, as my watch counted down. 3...2...1...
There was a whirring noise, and then both our watches fell off of our wrists simultaneously. He looked a bit startled, then relaxed.
"So...this is kind of awkward, huh?" He said with a laugh.
"Yeah..." My ( )eathing quickened. "Uh...I'm Beatrice. But call me Bee."
"Westley...but you can call me Wes for short."
"Want some ( )eakfast? I mean...we are soulmates, so it should be fine, right?"
"That would be fantastic."
Once we got back inside, I gave him a quick tour of the house, ending with the kitchen.
"What do you want to eat?" I said, opening the door to the pantry, which was sparsely stocked with junk food of all sorts. "I have...cereal...granola...and nutrigrain bars. There's milk in the fridge if you want some."
"I'll take some cereal." He opened the fridge and pulled out the milk. "Nevermind, the milk's expired."
"But I just bought that!" I scrunched up my face.
"I'll have a nutrigrain bar, then." He decided with a smile. "So, what shows do you watch?"
I lit up like a candle. "Steven Universe and Pokemon!"
"Really? I haven't watched Steven Universe yet, but I'm big into Pokemon!" He said, grabbing his ( )eakfast and beginning to eat. "Maybe we could marathon them sometimes?"
"I warn you..." I said in a serious tone. "Steven Universe may seem like a happy show...but it gets deep...fast."
"I'm on board for that!" Another laugh. Wes's laugh was like something out of a cartoon: wacky, a bit strange, and totally adorable. "I think this soulmate thing might work out...but just to make sure it does, let's make sure we become friends before we dive into the whole...romance part of it."
"Oh, and...um..." I remembered my biggest cause for worry. "I'm asexual...so...yeah."
"Oh...alright. We can make up for that with other fun stuff, I guess." He sounded only slightly disappointed. That was a good sign. "Can we watch some TV now? I usually do in the mornings."
I gave him a nod and a smile, then lead him to the living room. Somehow I knew that our love story was going to turn out just fine...even if we hit a few bumps along the road. |
