WARNING: WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ IS VERY OLD AND VERY CRINGEWORTHY. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Alright, the Lord of Researching Useless Information is here to explain Chara, from Undertale. (This has SOOOO many spoilers, STAY AWAY if you haven't finished the game and/or don't want it spoiled.)
We start with when Chara fell into the Underground. Asriel says Chara jumped down "not for a very good reason" implying that they were trying to kill themself. Asriel and his family found them and helped them. Chara grew close to Asriel's family and felt that they were part of it. Chara and Asriel, two dumb little kids, thought that the recipe for the pie included buttercups (it's actually cups of butter) and when they gave the pie to Asgore, he became sick. Chara and Asriel were destraught but Chara "laughed it off" (as Asriel says) as a coping mechanism. This coping mechanism is seen very often throughout the game, the most popular occurance being Sans. His entire character is basically a "sad clown" meaning that he uses humor to hide depression. But, that's just one example. Laughing off sadness is used numerous times in Undertale by numerous characters.
Moving on, Chara sees how unhappy the monsters are in the Underground and desperatley wants to help them get to the surface. They make a plan and present it to Asriel, since his help is a vital part of the plan. The plan is: Chara dies. Asriel takes their soul. Asriel goes to the surface (since, to cross the barrier, he needs one human soul, Chara's, and one monster soul, his own), kills 6 humans and takes their souls, and destroys the barrier. Chara would be sacrificing their own life for this. And, to die, Chara would eat buttercups (a flower) which are horribly poisonous and cause an extremely long, drawn out, and painful death. Why would they do this if they just wanted to be evil and kill people?
Asriel then sees how much pain Chara, his best friend, is in while they are dying and wants to stop the plan, but there's no going back now. Chara's dying wish is to have their body be layn in the flowers from their town. After they die, Asriel takes their soul (and their body) and crosses over the barrier, ( )inging their body to their hometown and laying it in the flowers. The human townsfolk see the monster with the dead body of a human child and think Asriel killed Chara, thus attacking him. He refuses to kill the humans, out of the kindness of his heart, and is struck down by the angry humans, only surviving long enough to get back to the Underground with Chara's body and die on his mother's garden (or is the garden his father's? Both? I can't remember).
Toriel takes Chara's body and gives it a proper burial in the RUINS. Also, Flowey happens (it's a long story how he happens so I won't go into it right now).
Frisk falls down into the Underground (emphasis on falls, unlike Chara, they did not jump). Chara feels their determination and wakes up. In Neutral/Pacifist, Chara kindly offers some narration, often making jokes or puns (it's a snowball...actually, it's a snow octahedron), in No Mercy (more commonly known as Genocide) Chara leaves these out. Instead saying things like, "He still has that sweater." and "Where are the knives?" But these are not signs of aggression.
You are the one who clicked kill. You are the one who decided this fate. Chara is just forced to follow you around. They think you just want power.
At the end of No Mercy, Chara reveals themself, saying they're (insert player name) and they are your EXP and LV and G, etc. But if you go out of the game after all that...and come back 10 minutes later, they'll say how they thought you wanted power but now you're coming back? They don't know why you are coming back. They don't know why you are still playing. You got your power. You won the game. Why are you coming back?
And then, if you reset and do Pacifist, they will still be there. In the mirror...in the puddle...in the picture at the end of the game. Why? Because you wanted power. You chose to kill everyone, not them. You can't just go back on that decision. No, you made that decision for good. Life has no reset button.
Chara was never evil. You chose to play No Mercy.
You are evil.
Chara is just forced to be along for the ride.

Sans carried his baby ( )other in his arms, walking through the laboratory. The machines clicked and buzzed but Sans wasn't going to try to fix them. He was too scared. Too scared that his father would see him. Too scared of what would happen if his father saw him. But that was ridiculous...Dr. W. D. Gaster, Sans's father, was...dead....? The day before, Gaster had fallen off the ( )idge in the core....to his death. Sans felt the linoleum floor under his sneakers. He watched his father fall to his death, tears welling in his eyes as Papyrus hugged his leg. Papyrus. What he was doing was for Papyrus. He waved his hand up and suddenly, out of nowhere, bones blocked the entrance. He was doing this for Papyrus. It was all for Papyrus. It would be worth it...for Papyrus. He was fifteen years old. Fifteen! But he could do this. Papyrus was six years old. He didn't deserve this burden. Sans took a deep ( )eath, putting Papyrus on a table. "Sans...?" Papyrus asked. "What's going on?" Sans didn't reply. The small boy dragged a robotic body out of a shadowy corner. He dropped it, tinkering with it. Footsteps came from outside. Sans looked at the door and then kept tinkering with the robot. "Come oooon....turn on, turn on, turn on....." Sans mumbled. The footsteps got closer and Papyrus jumped off the table, running to the door. He peaked through the bones and his eyes met with the cold, icy eyes of one of Sans's friends but....greyer? Papyrus gasped, stumbling backwards. "Sans!" he yelled, running back to his older ( )other and wrapping his little arms around Sans's waist. The laboratory was suffocating. The smell of death wrapped around Papyrus. The cobwebs and shadows with only a small lantern to light Sans's work. "Damn it!" Sans muttered, cutting his hand with the tool he was using to fix the robot. The bones immediately disappeared as Sans cut himself and the....friend....or whatever it was walked in, towards Sans and Papyrus. Sans picked Papyrus up, stumbling backwards, his hand bleeding on Papyrus's green shirt. There was no where to run, nowhere to hide. No one could hear them scream. |
