Broom-Hilda was a comic strip character in the 1970s and '80s. She had green skin, scraggly black hair, a black dress, rumpled, crumpled hat, red and black stockings (one of which was always sagging down), and a broom. She used to smoke cigars and drink beer, but she soon quit (hence the lollipop.) She was rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. She was also in the US Marine Corps for a very short time before she was discharged because of her bad behavior.
I retired from the US Army. I decided, when I was 8 years old, that I was a witch, and I still feel a lot like one now. I still swear a good bit, a holdover from my time in the military. I don't smoke or drink, but I do love candy. People in Italy, when my husband was stationed there, called me wacky, and coworkers in the Army told people not to get in a battle of wits with me. When I went through basic training, my husband was amazed I graduated; he couldn't believe I didn't let my mouth get me into trouble. I can relate to Broom-Hilda on a number of levels. So...my user name. |
