Racial traits: Eeliachim merpeople exhibit long tails, covered in plated scales (which extend over the chest area.) The skin tone varies from white to black, with all shades of grey in between. However, many have brightly colored fins, hair, and eyes. These ( )ightly colored areas are most often bio-luminescent and tend to share a single hue amongst them. Fin size and shape is as varied as the fish of the sea. While shape differences go unnoticed, small fins will mark an individual as belonging to a lower caste. Some individuals have many fins while others have only the Caudal fin. All eeliachim have pointed teeth and ears. Markings, like spots or stripes, are not unncommon.
Traditional dress and adornment: As with the realm of men the more beautiful and more rare a shell or gem, the more likely it is that the owner is someone of wealth and high-standing. Necklaces, arm bands, and tail drapes or rings are favored. Those well off enough to have an impressive collection are not shy about wearing it all at once. Clothing tends to be understated across all castes, with most Eeliachim considering it entirely optional. That said, some colors are reserved for specific peoples. Only seers may wear white and only royal females may wear pink.
Tattoos: Only the highest and lowest caste members have tattoos. For a high-caste individual the tattoos are often extensive and bio-luminescent. For low-caste individuals, they are usually small, chromatic, and most often located on the face. For individuals of rank, specific designs and symbols are used. Any non-ranking individual found marked with a rank-specific tattoo will be flayed. Any individual that loses their rank will have the tattoo marked over with a symbol denoting whether they retired or were expelled. |
