Adelaide's words caused the queen to reel back in surprise, nearly spilling her tea on her nightgown. A sad smile fell upon Adelaide's lips, the queen's reaction being the only answer she needed. Letting out a sigh, Adelaide stood up and went over to open Ophelia's closet.
"What are you doing, Adelaide?"
"Helping you pick something out to wear today~. You can't be in that simple nightgown all day, can you?"
"I could, but I have a meeting with Achilla, Tania, and some other generals today."
"Guess I'll be there too then, I should have worn something more sparkly today~!
"And what exactly is that supposed to mean Tania?!"
"Just that you, Achilla, are an absolute ( )ute sometimes! You can't just go charging into enemy territory with the entirety of our remaining soldiers!"
"Yes I can." Achilla smirked at Tania as she crossed her arms, proud of herself for seemingly outwitting the High Mage. Meanwhile Tania just groaned and pinched the ( )idge of her nose as Adelaide snickered in her little corner of the room. Queen Ophelia sighed and looked at the war table.
"Charging blindly into Kearlye is out of the option, they have much better defenses than our offence could ever dream of over-coming."
"So what do you expect us to do?! Wait for them to come knocking at our door with their warmachines?!" Achilla yelled furiously as she slammed her fists on the table, causing the others in the room to jump slightly. One could almost hear Adelaide mumble something about Achilla turning dark red as her quill scrawled across her paper. Achilla whipped her head around and glared at Adelaide before growling, "I'll show you dark red you little-"
"Achilla." Ophelia's harsh saying of her general's name stopped Achilla in her tracks, leaving the other woman grumbling as she sat in her chair. The queen sighed as she stood up and looked down at the war table. "We've lost many good men and women to the war, and will not sacrifice more than we absolutely have to... Tania, how has your research on combat magic been going?"
"Not well, I'm afraid. Not even our Midlander mages can use it."
"Keep researching then, our mages learning combat magic may be able to help turn the tide in this war." Ophelia then turned her attention to Achilla. "And what about you? Have you had any luck being able to recreate the war machines your troops captured?"
"I think we're almost there, give more another week or two." Achilla smiled in achievment, proud that she was further in her task than Tania. "The look on their faces when they realize they don't have an advantage anymore will be great!"
The sudden sound of someone slamming the doors to the war room open startled everyone. Looking at the doorway, everyone stared at the intruder in shock and confusion. Adelaide tilted her head curiously before smiling and running up to the intruder happily and hugging him. "Darling~!"
"Hello Lovely, sorry to barge in on you like this Your Majesty."
"No need to apologize, Solomon. What ( )ings you to this corner of the castle in such a hurry, you can barely ( )eathe right now!" Queen Ophelia looked at Solomon concerned.
"No need to worry about me, I have more important news." Solomon frowned as he rubbed his wife's back. "King Alarico is here for a visit, without any guards besides his retainers." |
