The world hidden in the parallel of the Isle of Skye is known as The Twin Realms. It is comprised of two distinct countries, thus the world's name.
The countries are Caoilinn, the Realm of the Seelie Fae and Echelere, the Realm of the Unseelie Fae. The two great empires share a time worn, shaky balance, held together by the Four Courts of Summer, Spring, Fall and Winter, which is comprised of delegates from each family of fae (Merfae, Dracofae, etc).
The courts are led by the Prince or Princess of the Twin Realms, and they pass on this responsibility to either their blood heir or one that they hand choose themselves. Only the Prince or Princess may make this decision. There is no guidance given aside from their own inner counsel. The only exception to this rule is if the Prince or Princess was not liked by the people or they were a tyrant (the courts hear of this through messengers of the Realms). In this case, the Courts will select a new Prince or Princess from their own ranks. The Prince or Princess leaves either when they get married (and they may decide if their future heir can claim the throne) or at a retirement of their choosing.
GENERAL INFO FOR INHABITANTS
-Fae of the Twin Realms all tend to be fairly tall, ranging from 6 foot even at the shortest (the Merfae tend to have this height) to almost 7 feet at the tallest (the Dracofae and some Kin fae reach this height) with very long limbs and slight stature, to make it easier to fly.
-All Twin Realms Fae possess retractable wings. Each wing set is different from the others and is often used to identify a specific inhabitant of the Twin Realms. There are a few generalities, but these don't apply all the time, just most.
~Merfae wings tend to be very wispy and transparent. They don't actually use their wings very often, so they don't have to be very strong. Under water, the wings would float like fabric or extra fins.
~Dracofae wings are the strongest in the Twin Realms, tending to be feathered, leathery, or scaly, depending on the Drake.
~The wings of the Kin Fae tend to be similar in appearance to stained glass. Each Kin race has a different general pattern. The Summer Kin tend to have gentle golden, pink, or yellow tints, the Spring Kin tend to have colourful schemes with a floral or leaf pattern, Fall Kin have darker colour schemes with fall leaf patterns, and Winter Kin have blues and silvers, and a more icy look.
~Swan Folk have wings like their namesake, big, feathered and white.
~Glen Children have butterfly or dragonfly-like wings. Colourful and playful. A few have wings like Hummingbirds, but this is rather rare.
~Cat Sidhe have very flexible wings that have textures similar to cloth, and are in the colour(s) of their fur.
~Brownies have wings of the appearance and texture of dead leaves, though they are not as fragile. |
