I didn’t register at the time that my whole body felt like it was in flames. Nor did I realize that I was sprouting wings and horns. All I knew was that Angel was in trouble and Liam was injured, possibly unable to protect. And I sure as hell wasn’t gonna let anyone hurt them.
Did I realize that I was suddenly off the ground and going faster than I ever could running? Not really. I did notice when a stream of flames came from my mouth, though.
“Holy crap!” I shouted, but it came out as a surprised roar. That’s when I finally took a good look at myself.
I had scales. Red ones; all over. I also now had four legs instead of two and they were equipped with taloned claws, covered with scales as well. I had a long thin tail and my body itself had gotten longer. I’d become a dragon. If I had to guess, my head had become longer thinner and sleeker as well, so that I now possessed a dragon’s snout.
I remained in this awed state until I heard Angel scream. “I don’t really know what’s going on,” I mumbled. “But, those creeps are gonna pay if they put one scratch on Angel!” I ended in a snarl and flew, yes flew; I had wings too, toward where Liam and Angel had fallen. When I reached the area, I didn’t like what I saw. Not one bit.
Liam was in really bad shape. The rough landing had done havoc on him and he could no longer stand, much less fly. He growled menacingly at the two Legion Dragons and their riders, who had surrounded them. Angel was standing her ground in front of him in a martial arts stance, protecting him. What the hell?! She planned to fight them on her own?! What was she, NUTS?!
She didn’t last long. In no time at all, one of the Legion riders had sliced their sword right across her stomach. Her eyes widened in surprise and blood started trickling from her mouth as she fell to the ground.
Now they’d done it. ANYONE who hurt Angel was gonna get one hell of a punishment! I let out a ferocious roar and flew over to the creeps, swiping at them with my claws. They fell fast and quiet. Their dragons, eager for revenge, leapt forward. But I was in such a rage, I cut them down easily as well. When they were all down, I hovered over Angel’s still form. “Angel…” I said softly, though I’m sure all she heard was a low growl. Without realizing it, I changed back, but I didn’t care. I fell to my knees next to her and gathered her limp body into my arms. “Angel…Angel…Come on…Wake up…” I said, struggling to hold back tears. “You can’t die! You can’t!”
“Dragyn!” a voice said from my mind. I recognized it as Liam’s. “Dragyn! You must find her a healer!” he said urgently.
I looked back at him. He was pretty close to unconscious, but his telepathy ability was still intact. Fortunately, I had mastered that same ability. “I know…but I can’t exactly go into the village and find one. They’ll kill me before I even get through the gate!”
“Dragyn!” Liam cut in impatiently. “You don’t have time to hesitate! Lady Angel won’t last much longer!”
As if to prove him right, Angel let out a little moan. “Crap…he’s right…” I relented, looking down at her. She was barely breathing. If I didn’t do something soon…she’d…
Without even thinking, I put Angel down and stood up. “I’ll find one! I don’t care if it costs me my life!” I growled. “I gotta save Angel!” With those words, my wings unfurled and I took off toward the village.
“Oookay…so…how do I do this?” I mumbled, looking around at the cluster of buildings far below me. Then I remembered one person who had promised to help me, no matter what the village said. “Heheh…I just hope that offer still stands…” With that thought, I flew down to one of the buildings on the outside area of the village.
