The O'Hara were a powerful family who controlled a large amount of land in Ireland that was bordering Scotland

The O'Hara's had a long standing feud with the Mac’ Dab’s

The head of the O’Hara family was Dylan O’Hara; he had a wife named Grace and 2 children Clarence and Mary

One day as Grace and the children were in the garden when a Mac ‘Dab spy kidnapped them

In an effort to get his family back Dylan made a deal with a lesser lord whom lands neared the Mac' Dabs, MacArthur’s. Dylan said he could chooses whatever prizes from the Mac ‘Dabs property they take

The  laird of the MacArthur family was no fool, and agreed.

The Battle was suggcesful, Lord Dylan believed the Laird of the MacArthur would take the land or some gold but instead he lay claimed to the O’Hara’s 1st born

Mary Was only 11 years old, she did not want to leave her family, but the deal had been made. Mary hade to pledge on her family honor, her life to the MacArthur's. Mary’s dowry and wedding dress, and her name and title papers were placed in a gold box and given to the Laird of the Mac' Aruthers

(This was not a debt that could be worked off, she was a prize he had won)

Clarence Refused to let his sister leave without him, and Dylan’s heart was already to broken to fight his son on the subject

They rode for days before reaching the MacArthur’s  home. Clarence was given a job in the stables. Mary spent her days learning from an old woman named Sara, Sara was the head servant of the house. one day while Mary was working she heard the laird yelling at his son Ian who had only been back from school a few days, Mary saw the laird strike Ian knocking him to the ground before storming off. Mary rushed to the boys’ aid giving him a cold wet cloth. When the boy looked in to Mary’s eyes and thanked her she got butterflies, suddenly her life wasn't so bad
