After the fall of Morgoth, Galadriel eventually became aware of Sauron's presence (whithout knowing who he was, or how many evil spirits were at work here). She therefore travelled east with Celeborn and founded the Kingdom of Eregion in SA 700. It was primarily, but not solely, a Noldorin realm, and one of its major inhabitants was Galadriel's cousin Celebrimbor. There was trade between the elves and the dwarves of Khazad-dûm, as Galadriel forsaw that the elves alone would be unable to stop Morgoth's evil, and that the dwarves might be valuable allies. Both sides profited from this unusual arrangement. The capital of Eregion was Ost-in-Edhil. In SA 1200, Sauron arrived under the guise of Annatar, and sought to thwart Galadriel. At some time between 1350 and 1400, he convinced Celebrimbor and his men to revolt against Galadriel, and she fled to Lórien with Celebrían. Celeborn remained behind, but was disregarded. In 1500, when Celebrinbor began to make the Rings of Power, Sauron left, but returned with an army in 1695 when he learned that Celebrimbor had found out the truth, and sought to obtain the rings. Eregion was utterly destroyed. |
