Númenor (Land of Westernesse), also known as Andor (Land of the Gift) was an island created by the Valar as a reward for the Edain for their help and sacrifices in the battles against Morgoth. The majority of Númenor's inhabitants were descendants of House Hador. Númenor was the westernmost part of Middle-Earth, from there, one could see Tol Eressëa, the easternmost island of Valinor. Númenor was shaped like a five-pointed star. The land was divided into six regions: Mittalmar at the center, where the holy mountain Meneltarma and the capital city of Armenelos were, Emerië was also part of it; Andustar in the north-west, where the haven of Andúnië was; Forostar in the north; Orrostar in the north-east; Hyarrostar with the haven of Rómenna in the south-east and Hyarnustar in the south-west. The people of Númenor lived long lives, members of House Hador and the House of Elros had the longest life-spans. |
