7. Is there any part of the fashion reserved for royalty? In the archipelago, the monarchs each wear a crown, and in general rulers in most stratified societies have independently invented the concept of elaborate headgear reserved exclusively for them. This is not the case with local clan or tribal chieftains, usually, since everyone knows who they are, although their clothing overall is much nicer.

Simple braids, with adornment, are common where it is windy, but in the south, most men wear a scalp-lock which can range from a whole Mohawk to just a ponytail left unshaven. In the north and east, hairstyles, especially for women, become much more elaborate, and can be shaped into various buns, loops, and twists all in the same hairdo. Other than hair ornaments, necklaces are widely popular, as are female earrings.

In the spring, maidens wear flowers in their hair pretty much worldwide and regardless of culture. Depending on location, these may be joined by beads, feathers, enameled hairpins, rings of precious metal, etc. (continued)

In the archipelago, skirts above the knee are normal for little girls, but a slit in a longer skirt for a woman is an attraction. Sheer fabrics are universally expensive and highly sought after as a means of showing off without exposing. Men rarely display a specific body part that is considered beautiful, however.

Generally showing off these body parts (different by region) is limited to ceremonial or party clothes, rather than everyday wear. In the plains, womenâs shoulders are considered lovely, for example. Similarly, keyholes, especially that reveal glimpses of cleavage, are admired in the south. (continued)

4. How does fashion vary between winter and summer? How about fall and spring? In winter, in climates where winter does not mean merely the rainy season, people wear more layers, of course, often including quilted and fur-lined items, especially in the plains and north. As it turns hot in summer, more skin gets exposed on the plains or in the south, although not in the desert to avoid sunburn, nor in the east where the lightest silks or linens are worn which still cover the limbs.

What type of dress is considered androgynous? Androgynous clothing consists largely of loose pants, long robes, and closed vests with or without a shirt of some kind beneath. Such attire is not at all considered odd while traveling, but sometimes looked askance upon when worn on an everyday basis in a settled area, there regarded as strange.

3. How does male and female fashion vary? Men have discovered pants in my world, and never looked back, although in some cultures, long robes are worn over them. Women usually wear skirts of some type, although not always. The top half of the clothing tends to be similar in style, although not cut, and differ more based on region than sex.

2. How does fashion vary between classes? In almost any region of Pangaea, the lower the status, the less decoration you will have to your clothing and other personal items. Generally the dyes available more cheaply are less color-fast, so their apparel also tends to be somewhat drab, and they will not have access to luxury fabrics at all.
