She had come to that conclusion after her reintegration, when she reviewed her three sets of Ifrit memories, and found that the absence of Ji in two of them was a situation that she didn't want to repeat. The blue woman hadn't been able to realize how much she'd missed him until she was once more whole. Ifrit tries to explain some of this to Ji as they travel. All he says in reply is "Love, it is you, has always been you and only you, for me. Fusion? That has been an... improbable dream."

Pursuant to that goal, while Syura and Summer Wind stop at Bowing Tree Village, the two fey continue on, toward the densest jungle they can find. Gaians aren't precisely solitary beings, for they welcome and enjoy visitors, but they do tend to dwell in spots made moderately inaccessible by a profusion of trees. Lore maintains that it is impossible to find a Gaian unless you have genuine need of one. Ifrit, strongly feels she has a need; she wishes to be closer to Ji even than wife alone, now.

"How would you feel about at least asking her to perform a Fusion?" "I..." Ji is overjoyed, and slightly frightened that his beloved has proposed this thing. There is no backing down from a Fusion, no leaving your spouse, no petitioning for divorce if the marriage is just too awful to bear. "I would be honored, my Ifrit."

The two human women walking slightly ahead to give the fey couple privacy to talk, Ifrit tentatively inquires, "Ji, would it bother you terribly if our wedding ceremony were delayed slightly? If we didn't wed after the manner of the seaborn fey after all?" "I will abide by your decision, my love, you know that," he responds, mentally calculating how many more decades he'll have to wait for her to be ready. "I know, Ji, yet I don't want to do anything to make you unhappy." She takes his hand.

Ji finds her, along with Summer Wind and Syura, at that same isolated oasis. "What did you do with Imp?" Ifrit asks Ji. Echoing the Gaian, he says, "You don't truly need to know... but I'll tell you that he doesn't swim well in this condition." "You threw him into the sea, then?" "It seemed like a way to cool his fieriness," Ji teases mildly. "Good," Ifrit approves. "Are we done here?" he wonders idly. "Yes, we've eaten and rested for the hottest part of the day; we'll set out again now."
