"You know," Summer Wind muses one day, "if it weren't such an imposition to expect her to figure out everything in nature for you, the person I would ask would be the Gaian. She'd most likely know if this sort of transformation had ever been tried before, too, and if so, what needed to be done to make the magic successful." And that's it! Or almost it... because the Gaian's new Acolyte is Ifrit's mother Zephyr, a wind spirit named after a type of breeze. And there's no doubt she has changed!

Also, in what way is who supposed to do the "bidding" of whom? Summer Wind's conclusion on that, after consideration, is that Amen, who is now his own master, must bid himself. In this, her thoughts concur with those of Syura, who is more accustomed to interpreting riddles gleaned from tribal dancing, yet neither woman is completely sure. Still, it is some progress, and Syeha and her djinn boyfriend are encouraged. Amen dislikes feeling so passive where his own fate is at stake, however.

"I'm a bit jealous, though, of how poetically your trees express themselves," she teases her young sister-in-law. "My butterflies tend to be somewhat scatter-brained, I'm afraid." Everyone is still hopeful that some brilliant flash of insight will occur to either Summer Wind or Syeha, but to be answered with more waiting does seem a little anticlimactic. Even the part of the communication regarding Adamant is ambiguous; it could be referring to the diamond, or firmness of resolve, or both.
