She cannot know that her quick smile is all the young cleric needs to reassure himself that she has no assassinations assigned in the near future. He simply understands her well enough to sense that such an upcoming reality would taint her easy laughter. Velen never meant to read her that deeply, but sometimes his magic seems to have a mind of its own. He has accepted this; he hopes that someday Cat will acknowledge and make her peace with it, if not also... well... he wishes for even more.

Cat, however, is not dismayed, as she was upon being faced with a night of dancing. Needless to say, Catleya's first warning that she would be called upon to sing, play, or compose poetry, was whispered into her ear as Velen met her at the door. No such advanced notice was forthcoming from the hostess herself, because "Of course, all well educated young people of a certain rank can boast these talents and accomplishments; it is the done thing to be able to craft a deft turn of phrase, at least, even if one is lamentably tone deaf. I just know you'll positively excel, dear!"
