Neither teen finds that exactly satisfactory, although it makes the blood race in their veins. "Thank you," Syeha says shyly, tears spangling her lashes. "You really shouldn't!" "It is mine to give," Amen responds firmly, slipping the ring onto her finger, which, being magical, it fits. "You'll succeed, and I won't need this because I'll have you," Syeha blurts suddenly, unable to believe her own ears. "I certainly hope so," is Amen's answer. Prompted by... something... he's not sure what, Amen decides that he will make a grand gesture. He stops her, looks her earnestly in the eyes, and tells her he trusts her, and further, trusts her judgment. If he can once again become human, this will only be a token; if not, it will give her the means to summon him if she is ever in any kind of need. And he gives her his diamond ring. Syeha tries not to accept, and when she must, calms her fright by kissing him "thank you"... on the cheek.

Therefore, the Syeha that Amen tries gently to steer towards going home on their long walk beside the lake is not amenable to that suggestion. Unfortunately, while he was spending time pondering, Ifrit has let the others know the outcome of her conversation with Male. And like the blue djinn woman, Syeha is adamant that she will not allow Amen to fall into dejection and abandon his goals. The southern girl is just beginning to entertain daydreams involving an Amen who is not blue and red eyed, and is not willing to surrender the possibilities of these fantasies so easily. If Silver Fox and Ifrit believe it is possible, so will she.
