Satisfied that her daughter seems to approve of the dress, Zephyr turns and paces solemnly into the grove of gigantic trees. Feeling that they would be very silly to come all this way and then not seek out the Gaian, Ji and Ifrit follow in her footsteps, unconsciously holding hands. Within the oval of trees, the normal laws of eat or be eaten have been suspended. The Gaian is holding court, of a sort, on a large stump under a canopy of boughs. "Good," she greets them. "I hoped you'd come."

Grey eyes huge and innocent, Ifrit's mother continues, "I brought you something. It is a dress. We zephyrs rarely wed formally before a cleric, but... this belonged to my own mother." "Thank you, Mother, that's most considerate," Ifrit says, resolving to check the heirloom for subtle spells in the weave. She is not that naive to the way that Zephyr operates. This time her suspicions prove unfounded, however. The dress is clean of all but standard good luck wishings and fertility charms.

"All are welcome in the Holy Grove. I come in Peace," asserts Zephyr, and suddenly the way before them becomes a track, and then a path, and then a glade in which stands an oval of ancient trees. "The southern wind is warm and gentle," remarks the purple female. "Why can't she just say what she means," whispers Ji. "Southern winds always make Mother poetic," his fiance replies. "My bravest Love," the fey male says, reaching up to kiss her temple, "I had no idea." Ifrit shrugs and laughs.

"She's sorry? About abducting you, trying to sell you to an enemy, and threatening to murder your friends?" asks Ji incredulously. "Essentially, yes, that's what she means. The wind has changed; she's changed... her mind at least, maybe even her heart. She loves me, in her way, and wants to attend my wedding," interprets Ifrit. "What if the wind changes again?" Ji inquires skeptically. "Then she may or may not remain apologetic, but I think she'll still want to be allowed at the ceremony."

Ignoring Ji's outburst of "You?", the purple woman focuses on her daughter. "The wind has changed," she says earnestly, like a plea. "It blows now from the south." Ifrit sighs. "Yes, I suppose it does. Why are you here, Mother?" "The southern wind brings me to see my daughter wed," Zephyr continues enigmatically. "What does she mean?" asks Ji. "Can you trust anything she says?" "You didn't grow up with a wind spirit," his bride answers wryly. "It means she's sorry now and apologizes."
