Zephyr reaches out for her wind powers... and comes up short; she's underground. Irritated, she does drop the mortal woman in order to focus on destroying Ji. The male fey checks on Song, then proceeds to engulf Zephyr in a lightning net much like the one she created herself. This one, however, is much, much stronger, and confounds the purple woman. "Now that wasn't so bad," Ji says reasonably. "You should be very grateful your daughter still has some love for you!" he adds, menacingly now.

However, Ji isn't burdened with a hostage, so he overtakes her in almost no time at all. "Put her down, Zephyr," he orders pleasantly. "Or you'll make me? A male rejected by the seaborn? Do you take me for a fool?," Ifrit's mother snipes. "Yes, I do. Only a fool would believe she could do what you've done to Ifrit and escape unscathed," Ji says with a bit more edge in his voice. "She's my daughter!" maintains the purple woman. "She's my fiance... and this inanity is pointless," he says.

"You can deal with the three who took Springing Doe, I assume?" Ji asks, pausing at the lip of the tunnel opening. "Yes," concur the shaman, the mage, and the witch-woman. "They rely too much on illusion," Syura adds, "and stealth." "They've lost that luxury here," Summer Wind agrees. Smoke Cat Watching only grins, and says, "Let's hunt!" Ji flashes her an answering feral smile, before vanishing into the underground passage. Zephyr is swift, and has far outdistanced her human accomplices.

Ahi'i herself opts to take on Syura, and acquires a black eye and broken nose for her trouble. All three tiny women run back toward the underground tunnel entrance, jointly dragging Springing Doe who, by refusing to move, delays them considerably. Zephyr remains long enough to issue an ultimatum: Ifrit must surrender now and return her mother's slave if she wishes to see her friends alive again. The purple fey underrates Ji, however, not truly comprehending that he is easily a match for her.

Quickly Zephyr bounds like a gazelle to the nearest mortal, who happens to be Wolf Calling, and produces a crackling cage of lightning around them both. This action is repeated more slowly by Ahi'i and her two sister magic-workers. One grabs Springing Doe and successfully threatens her with a ball of lightning in one hand and the other on a knife at the taller woman's back. The third tiny female, however, chooses Smoke Cat, and gets her lightning hurled back at her, scorching her knife hand.
