And then... the trail just... stopped. It was a sharp and abrupt cutting off of all signs at the wharf. The psychic 'footprints' didn't even lead down the jetty. Marea sought far and wide for a reappearance, and finally, late at night, used a great deal of power striding out over the waves to scry from the fjord waters themselves. Yet there was nothing. The young Witch was close to tears of frustration and despair when Draensil, risking similar exhaustion, walked out to her and brought her back.

Robin carefully failed to mention the conversation he'd just had with his father. What was done was done, and too late to be taken back. The next day, Marea resumed her tracking, much easier now that the traces were fresher; now she could perceive Tiger's sleeping mind as well, and vaguely, two others... the Snake-Eyed. The Iretmoses were nothing if not efficient. Their course through Oslo was close to a straight line towards the private rather than commercial docks. No one was very surprised.

"Don't worry, Gran, all we have to do tomorrow is track the bad guys through Oslo; it shouldn't be that difficult," Marea reassured Ynarra. The two Witches spoke a little longer, and then hung up. When she saw the rest of the team at supper, Marea reported the seer's only somewhat cryptic message. Everyone was baffled, and felt somehow disappointed. They'd gone to so much trouble to find Iretmoses, and now they couldn't warn anyone? It didn't seem right or fair. But you didn't scorn soothsayers.

Anyway, the Alfyn and Dorfyn spells independently confirmed the presence of the Snake-Eyed, not too far distant in the past. If we hurry, maybe we can catch up to them!" "Don't do anything foolish or reckless, now, Marea," her grandmother cautioned her. "You're a first class scryer, but don't try to overextend yourself into the etheric plane."
