This property was meant as a getaway from the pressures of imperial as well as local politics, not to mention inclement weather during the hot, rainy season in the south. In truth, it was a lot like the Fa home, and Shang and Mulan spent a lovely honeymoon there, though such things weren't... precisely... traditional. But then, neither was the bride wearing a sword to her wedding; they were an unusual couple, yet quite a happy one. He claimed she was his savior, and she said the same of him.

Customarily, the bride should have been carried through the gates of her new home in a palanquin, heavily veiled. Yet, Shang was reluctant to share this time with Mulan with neighboring well-wishers and visitors, or with his ailing mother, and so did not immediately take his bride to the main family house. The Li lineage was a relatively prosperous one, yet Shang had never particularly cared for fine things until his marriage, when it became extremely convenient to own a small country retreat.

It was a very simple plan, really. The newlyweds partied and chatted with their families and friends for as long as they enjoyed doing so, and then Mulan spoke softly to Khittin. After that, if asked, everyone involved in the plot would claim to have just seen one or the other of the pair, and wonder as credibly as possible where they could've disappeared to so fast. Fortunately, the palace was quite full of odd corridors and antechambers and unexpected courtyards... easy to lose a person in.

However, one must sometimes make compromises in life, and after all, they were finally getting married. If a lot of other people wanted to celebrate the union of their two favorite heroes, that was fine with Shang and Mulan, provided they themselves could somehow manage to sneak out the back when no one was looking. In this they had the assistance of Khittin, a few more trustworthy Imperial Princesses, and their better friends among the soldiers, all of whom had now been promoted to officers.
