It's too bad that Shang can't simply get it back himself as he is pretty competent, but luckily for him he also knows about the sword betraying men. That's why it's called the Sword of the Heroine. So all we need is a handy heroine.

Phew! I'm happy that at least Shang knows about the sword. Shouldn't surprise me; he's pretty observant. I'm sure Mulan will set things right ^^ Get that sword back, girl!

No one was more surprised than she, however, to see Mulan's eyes flutter open in response to the stinging smoke Kala Nag wafted over the sleeping girl. It was all for show, and the dose she'd received ought to keep her unconscious for at least another day. Mulan, though, barely tolerated wine, and only drank small amounts of it. This time, she'd been clumsy from the potion, and spilled the rest. "Shang," breathed a weary Mulan, "what happened?" "The witch has the Jade Lotus," he whispered.

To lessen the danger of poisoning, Shang had convinced Mulan to eat and drink nothing that didn't come either from a communal dish, or from his own meal. He reasoned that Kala Nag would have little reason to murder him, and besides, without telling Mulan, he could taste a tiny bite for her first to make sure it was safe. Apparently that little bit hadn't been enough in this case. And now he had no choice but to provisionally 'trust' Kala Nag to reverse whatever drug she'd added to the wine.

So that's what this had all been about! But how to retrieve it? No, he couldn't do it, himself. Only Mulan could do that now; she simply had to wake up! At least no one else seemed to have noticed the change in ownership of the sword. It was well hidden among layers of the high desert woman's voluminous clothing. The thing that rankled the most was that Kala Nag was correct; it was his own wine cup he carried. Technically Shang had brought Mulan whatever sleeping drought she'd imbibed.

(cont.) "I'm not without skill and experience in these matters; I can examine your princess, if you like," the elder woman stated pleasantly. "Fine, good, but you won't touch a hair on her head, just so that you understand me clearly," assented the General. He'd been trained to keep a close eye on his enemies, and besides, Shang didn't want to leave Mulan alone for too long. As Kala Nag swept regally past him, Li Shang caught a fleeting, yet unmistakable, glimpse of the Jade Lotus on her hip.
