Continuing my #Mulan tale for @DysMalLexia's contest: Mulan watched silently, neither particularly horrified nor surprised, as the Hun Shan Yu disappeared over the edge of the roof, still cursing, and plummeted to the paving stones far below. Indeed, legend had been proven true; he had attempted to take the Jade Lotus from her, and it had betrayed him to his death. She'd seen the sword inexplicably twist itself in midair to put its hilt out of range and slice into the man's hand instead. It felt anticlimactic and a little anxious, climbing back down all those stairs through the palace without knowing whether she was a heroine or an outlaw, but Mulan had saved the Emperor, and that was what mattered. If she were merely allowed to go home to her family, it would be enough. And if she bore dishonor for breaking laws and traditions, so be it. Fa Mulan hadn't meant to play such a public role, yet she would do it all over again if she had to. The Emperor was waiting for her. (cont) |
