Wow, the Emperor is pretty cool, I really like the detail about his past as a young prince, great touch. Also you did an incredible job at recreating the Emperor, spot on!

Thanks so much, as always, Lexia!! I'd take credit for the halo if I could, but it's just the moon from the Princess Maker's balcony background, which got centered over his head, although I did do that on purpose. ;) Double thanks for saying that my action hangs together, because it takes easily twice as long to plot out in my head as anything else; it doesn't come as naturally to me, so I work very hard on it!

Really like how you created the Emperors look as well as his halo/crown(?), I'm instantly reminded of him walking down the palace steps in the trailer. Your ability to write action scenes is fantastic, so many moving parts, but I'm never lost in the throngs of action.

Unfortunately, the Hun had been between the exterior escape route and Mulan, who was nearer the door, instead. And she couldn't allow the Shan Yu to pursue the Emperor any further, or even to get lost in the throng of people below. Diving for the Hun's sword, now hanging from slack fingers, Mulan wrested it from him. But she couldn't cut loose that end of the rope yet. Fa Mulan needed to ensure that the Shan Yu focused solely on her until Shang, the Emperor, and her friend were safely down.

Captain Li, however, still had a dagger that he hadn't surrendered to the Hun hidden hilt-first in his palm. He slammed the handle hard into the Shan Yu's left elbow, making that arm go numb, and pulled the Emperor away to the far side of the balcony. Quickly picking up the Chinese ruler, he threw the knife to Mulan, shouting, "I have the Emperor! Follow me!" Shang and the hurt soldier had time to reach halfway to the flagstones before the Shan Yu found spare rope to hang from and follow.

The Hun leader should've been keeping a better eye on his captive, though, because while he thought the elderly man was subdued, the Emperor had once been a young prince with rivals for the throne. He knew how to fight, too. So when he saw an opening, the Emperor snatched the Shan Yu's own dagger from the injured soldier's arm, and jabbed him in the left forearm holding him imprisoned. The Shan Yu was a large, strong man; that alone only weakened his grip on the Emperor, and infuriated him.

(cont) He wound up standing behind the Emperor with his sword at the old man's throat. "Drop your weapons," the Hun demanded, and Shang and Mulan had no choice but to comply. "Kick them over to me," he told them. They did that as well, yet the owner of the Jade Lotus warned him, "You shouldn't touch that. It's not for you." Of course, he laughed. Tossing Shang's sword over the balcony, the Shan Yu switched his own weapon to his left hand, testing the Sword of the Heroine with his right.
