My sincere thanks, Lexia!! If I didn't love Mulan so much, I might have thought twice about all the drab military uniforms I was going to have to make... I'm working on some more colorful dolls now, and it's a nice change of pace. :)

Imagining trying to sleep in a tiny rocky outcrop, in winter with that much blood loss, you can really feel the cold and silence before she hears shouting from the enemy. I always like stories where the hero ends up being exhausted and managing to find sleep in the middle of chaos. Great work on the bandages, they look great!

Their Shan Yu was among them, and his mind was set on vengeance. On foot, for the steppe clansmen had lost virtually all of their sturdy ponies, the Huns proceeded through the pass, also striking for the Imperial City. Mulan followed in their wake until the enemy reached the city wall, slipped through the gates in pairs and trios, disguised as ordinary traders now that the threat of war had been resolved, and blended into the crowd. No matter what, Mulan couldn't let them reach the Emperor.

Mulan had finally felt worthwhile, and at ease with herself. It was just as well, however, that her tiny fire made very little smoke. The sharp-eyed Huns, upon emerging from their own tunnels of snow, would surely have spotted it. As it was, she heard the shouts of the few Hun warriors who'd survived as they located each other and assembled, yet they remained ignorant of her. Just as she and Shang had managed to find a refuge, so too had a dozen or two invaders from the army's leading edge.

The small military force was heavyhearted as they came down out of the mountains; they were victorious yet still mostly untried, and their Captain, especially, had lost much. Li Shang couldn't help occasionally glancing in grief at the riderless black horse. Mulan, miles behind and planning to head the other way after resting for a day and night, was equally miserable. She wouldn't miss the war but... it had been exciting, and she'd been doing something critical which no one else could do.

It was Yu Lien who bandaged her wounded young friend, and kept her from freezing to death before she awoke. The sword cut on Mulan's side was fairly shallow, but a long gash that would leave a thin scar. Unfortunately, the one thing the Sword of the Heroine simply could not understand was how to heal. Mulan slept while the army of Chinese recruits dug themselves out of the surrounding snow banks and ascertained that conditions were stable enough to travel on southwards to the Imperial City.
