Continuing my #Mulan tale for @DysMalLexia's contest: The good thing about mountain crevasses, in this case, is that often there's a long way to fall. Hence, before Mulan either blacked out or hit bottom, she and the Jade Lotus had time to react. As she drew the sword, Mulan instantly stopped plummeting downward, swaying slightly from the hilt as though it were an anchor. Flying back up now to rejoin her friends would only terrify them. Hazy from blood loss, Mulan reluctantly acknowledged that staying "dead" would be best for everyone. Looking swiftly for alternate shelter, she spied a cave, little more than a wide split, where she could alight until it was safe to return to the pass and make her way home. Her last thought, as Mulan settled into the gap in the rock face and allowed herself to lose consciousness, was to hope Shang would recover soon and treat Khan well before returning the horse to the Fa family.
