Continuing my #Mulan tale for @DysMalLexia's contest: Mulan hadn't given much thought to her own life when she'd run forward; all her concern had been about stopping the Huns, but somewhere in the back of her mind was a vague feeling that probably the Sword of the Heroine could miraculously save her. This would be a fitting end to her military career, though, if she "died" in service. That would avoid any awkward explanations. Then Mulan became conscious of two things: the Hun Shan Yu bellowing in rage and swinging his sword towards her, and also the sound of her name shouted by an approaching Li Shang. Adrenaline, and care for her Captain, forced her to think about how to survive that instant, and the next. Whistling for her horse, Khan, Mulan began sprinting back toward Shang. Rivers of whiteness were flowing up her legs before Khan reached her, and the snow had piled to chest height before they were able to catch up to Shang and sweep him into the saddle, as well.
