Continuing my #Mulan tale for @DysMalLexia's contest: For a blood oath to be binding, the participants need to draw their own blood voluntarily, and here Mulan saw an opportunity to symbolically equalize the damage Shang and the tiger had inflicted upon one another. The wounds didn't have to be deep, just enough to collect a few drops into a cup of water from which each of them would drink. Yet deliberately echoing the method and location could be viewed as a tacit apology. Happily, Shi-Yang was amenable to the plan, and the Captain was desperate. It was a simple ritual; they cut themselves, they bled, they sipped or lapped the water, respectively. The results, however, were literally spellbinding. A stillness descended over the interior of the hut, and the big cat calmly closed his eyes. He began to thin into a hazy, misty shape that drifted toward Li Shang. As this settled over his human form, it shifted and molded to Shang's body, melting slowly into one being. (cont) |
