"There's one more thing that's bothering me," Catleya begins, totally ignoring Velen's question. He laughs. "Only one?" "Yes, only one. Isn't that strange?" she responds. "But it's been a long time since I've just appeared in your bedroom with a knife. What's bothering me is how much I miss it." The young Cleric grins. Cat looks down, blushing. "I... this is harder than I thought... I... need you, Velen. Being with you... I'm happy. Why aren't we together?" "I have no idea," he says.

"Thank you, Velen," the young assassin nearly whispers. "Thank you... the words aren't enough, but... thank you." Cat is dismayed to find that in spite of her usually more than adequate self-control, her aura is glowing slightly. Fleetingly, she frets about what her guests will think, and then, concludes they'll assume something of a romantic nature. "Why not?" Catleya says to herself, laying down her cards. "Why not what, my Cat?" the Cleric asks, unsure whether she's changed the subject.

"Mother is a strong telepath, very intuitive, and she knows me better than anyone else alive... except, maybe, you. I'm afraid she'll find out the truth about my Syndicate connections, and I don't know how she'll react, exactly, however... it won't be pleasant." Velen takes a deep breath. "All right. I don't know what good my support will be, but you'll have it, Catleya. Remember she loves you beyond description. And, who knows? Perhaps I can steer her thoughts away from that discovery."

Cat is silent for a while, playing her cards haphazardly. "Velen," she begins, "I need to ask you for a favor." The young Cleric smiles at her. "Name it." "I'd like you to work with my mother on familiarizing herself with her magic again. Your talents are similar, and... I want you to be present if..." Catleya's voice trails off. "If what, my Cat?" Velen prompts. "I've been able to hide my double life from my parents for years now... but my mother wasn't using her powers then," she says.
