Maker the entire back of the dress darker will work. Or you can just create a fold using a darker color(that might take longer as you have to blend well and shade to make the fold). A third option which might be simple is to use drag and drops of a darker color to divide the dress and serve as trim decoration. Does that help any?

I honestly dont see much wrong with it, from the angle you went for, it turned out pretty good :) I especially love the shape of the bodice.

Wren- I sometimes go to google images and search for dresses but most of the time I go on the beloved pages here and try to see how other DDers use the maker and dd to make things like folds, layers, shading, etc. Falak- Good idea- sorry did you mean make the back of the dress darker or just use a darker shade altogether?

The dress is really beautiful despite that "off" feeling you have. I think you've already got your answer but I've got a tip for the future. When dividing the dress to show the back it is a good idea to chose a darker color in this case dark peach or pink and first draw a line. Then you can blend the line with the fabric material making sure to leave enough showing for a shadowed look.

Do you use pictures for reference? I like to find dresses from books, or there are some fabulous dresses in the V&A museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. I've never been to the Met but have happily spent hours in the V&A :-)

This is so pretty:) I like what Belnika says. Another way of creating balance on a bustled skirt would be to put create a train at the back of the skirt. x

Thank you Amethyst! Belnika- Yes, exactly! The only problem was I couldn't find the right color to shade with..pink is weird for me because the darker pink/purple color looked too dark(?)

ohhh I see what you mean! the white draggie is what caused the blending, mostly. shading is the real key to effects like that though

Thanks Belnika- I agree. It looks more lopsided because I wanted it to be like the back of the skirt showing as well. Tried to divide the dress by those bows but it sort of blended together >.> Thank you for your critique!

I would counteract this third point by flaring the right side of the dress, ie letting the outer edge of the skirt progress downward in an angle. aim to have the two furthest points on the hemline equally distant from the waist of the doll. all that said, very cute design! adore the hat
