Freja Balgruufdottir was kidnapped at a young age by bandits. Through her own cleverness and resourcefulness, the young girl managed to escape their clutches and somehow made it to Markarth.
She lived on the streets there until she was fifteen, at which point she charmed the innkeeper at the Silverblood Inn enough to let her live in a room upstairs. She never learned to speak properly.
Freja often did favors for the Jarl and the people of Understone Keep, at one point slaying the spider Nimhe that was terrorizing the archaeologists there. She decided she liked the spider's name better than her own and has dropped her last name as well, simply calling herself Nimhe.
