"Karako wants to know where you got the money to pay off your creditors and bribe your way back into Paris. I think that should do for now, though we can always up the ante later..." Robin shrugged. "Shall we play?" The half-Alfyn didn't pretend to make mercurial moves or novice errors. He presented himself as the expert he was, as if he expected Sharp to keep up so that Robin wouldn't be bored. It really got under the night fae's skin, and Sharp, ironically, grew more careless due to his ire.

For the rest of their round, Sharp chattered nonstop. And lost virtually continuously as well. He wound up owing the Kitsune the answer to the first question he had promised to tell her, payable after the end of all three matches. Then it was Robin's turn. Sadly, he didn't look all that drunk. But Sharp wasn't a beginner at... arranging... the cards to suit his needs. "You're broke, Sharp," the Bubble Magician said infuriatingly. "What else can you tell us that we want to know? Let me think..."

No one psyched out Sharp! Maybe she was counting cards, and that's why her responses to his conversational ploys were light and emotionless. If so, then the Kitsune was concentrating too hard on remembering which cards had been dealt when and to whom that she had no thoughts left for chitchat. The Dorfyn set out to distract the young fox sidhe. No harm would be done if she wasn't counting cards, and her ability to keep all the many cards straight in her mind would be destroyed if he was correct.

Sharp's fortunes changed yet again. Now Karako was winning, and the cash was flowing back to her like water runs downhill. He thought at first it was because she seemed to have recalled her earlier lessons and carefulness. But it was more than that; the Kitsune wasn't cheating... he was relatively sure of that... however, she made incredible plays as if she knew which cards were in his hand. Could she be a disguised Lyllaen? No, that was silly. And she was fallible. Was she psyching him out?
