"Don't..." He gave another almost-sigh, as though he'd abandoned his first thought. "Don't run off to another continent with no word and zero warning. Just don't." Marea tried to make up for having hurt him with the warmth in her voice alone. "I won't. I promise. I won't." She paused for a moment. "Mark?" "What?" he asked, on guard again. "For what it's worth, one of the things I figured out in India, that I needed time to get clear on, was that... well... being without you really sucks."

"What?" replied the young Witch, somewhat confused. "I said okay, I'll do it, whatever it is you need. I'll do it because I've been without you for weeks, as I mentioned, and being without you really sucks. I'm now aware of just exactly how much being without you sucks." He blew out all of his breath, not quite a sigh. "Marea?" Mark's voice was lower, slower, calmer, sadder. She felt awful. "Yes?" "Don't do that again, all right? I'll do this for you; you promise me that in return, okay?"

"No, although I should have. I just got back from India, and I wanted to tell you that I worked a few things out. But something came up right away... actually it's part of the reason I came back when I did..." Marea trailed off. "You need a favor," Mark said in a clipped tone. "You ghost me for weeks... no calls, no texts, no emails, not even a damn carrier pigeon... and now you want me to do you a favor. Am I right?" Marea swallowed hard. "Essentially, yes," she admitted. "Okay, then."
