Perhaps testing the durability of Syeha and Amen's attachment to each other through some time apart might be in the back of Syura's mind, but it isn't her primary goal. The witch-woman intends, rather, to counteract the supreme giddiness induced by first love with some of the homey and prosaic things that the girl is deprived of, being away from friends and family. Hopefully this will give Syeha a little time and space in which to breathe, and reflect on everything that has happened so fast.

In short, Syura's emotional state is complex. She is sure of one thing, at least, though. It is time for Syeha to return to Bowing Tree Village. This is not a ploy to separate the young lovers, but simply because she has been away for too long, and her family misses her. Plus, the magic in Syura's soul tells her that their native soil will provide much needing grounding for the girl. There is no mention of forcing her daughter to return the ring, for that would be as futile as it was rude.

Also, she likes Amen. However, the witch-woman cannot help thinking that he is not what she had pictured for a son in law, even if she did not consider that they are both too young (relatively) to be seriously committing to one another for life (again, figuratively speaking only, in Amen's case). The scheme to make him human once more is laudable, but not precisely... something a mother's heart feels comfortable counting on. Mixed with this is joy for her child's current happiness and hope.
