"You may have noticed," Amen begins his saga, "that I act differently than other fey in many respects. For example, I am subject to hypnosis, while they are not; I sleep, while most of them only hibernate rarely; I prefer to walk rather than floating the way that most djinn do. There are other differences, but I don't want to bore you." "Can you tell lies?" asks Smoke Cat Watching, purely from curiousity. "No, ma'am," he informs her. "Only the free fey can, and then solely by great effort."

"I don't know, ma'am," answers Amen dubiously. "You were lots of help with the blue genie gem, but I'm not sure even you can help me now..." His navy skin deepens in tone a bit, making him seem forlorn. "Well, certainly we can't if you don't tell us anything," says Song the Wolf Calling practically. Eventually it is settled that, purely as entertainment, Amen will recount his tale during the times when there is nothing much to do but rest and wait and attempt not to think about the heat.
