"Do we still have time?" the three magicians ask Springing Doe. She cannot risk contacting her sister with Zephyr right in front of her, but reports that Song and Ifrit appear to be baiting the purple fey effectively at the moment. "Good, we'll return to the adolescent Ifrit's rooms and fan out from there, as we discussed." On the way they narrowly miss being stumbled across by the djinn boy, Amen. He is clearly in a hurry, however, and doesn't see them fade back into a side passage to hide.

Smoke Cat Watching's shamanistic hunting skills are then put to the test. The traces are faint and difficult to read, so it becomes slow going for the human companions once again. Nevertheless, they manage to follow the girl Ifrit to the audience hall where she was fetched to meet the man who was purchasing her, and as far beyond that as the spot where she fragmented herself. There the trail does not just grow cold, but vanishes entirely. It seems that the easy part of the search is over.

In due time, the three women run across a door with one of their directional cues written on it, theoretically discernible only to the touch of the mage who drew it. Summer Wind is relieved to discover that her handiwork does indeed hold up against fey eyes. After that their progress is much faster, although they continue to exercise caution, as the place is riddled with magical snares intended to seize one of the adult Ifrits. When they reach their goal, however, the suite is sadly empty.

"If Zephyr detected the invisible way markers that we inscribed on the doors when we were here earlier, this will either be a very long, or a very short, search," breathes Summer Wind. "All we can do is hope that they're intact and that the girl Ifrit is still occupying the same rooms," answers Syura. "I might be able to magically track her footsteps from those chambers if she has been relocated, but I admit these drafts will make it challenging," Smoke Cat offers. "See anything familiar?"
