Rules/GalleryOur progress so far And the final foundation--how dangerous is this world? We know that the present races all lean towards peace and collaboration, but was it always this way? Are there undercurrents of unrest, or are the Lemians truly in an era of peace? Are there dangers not man/Lemian-made, but rather other, more natural forces--mighty beasts, magic storms, and the like? #Lemawo
(cont.) Some dangerous natural events come like clockwork, like the perilous lighting cyclones which only occur once every revolution of the planet (a year), on the last day before they reach a certain point in the orbit. Others are unpredictable. There are rumours of many ancient and powerful beasts lurking in the deepest secluded regions of Lemawo, such as deep waters and dense ancient forests, and though most of the rumours are true, the only threat they pose is to those who venture (cont.)
After a long era of war many many years ago, people got tired of the fighting which plagued their lives and caused them so much hatred. Leaders and people alike decided to move towards peace. The start was rocky, with previous rivalries causing issues, but over time a true era of peace came over the world. Although there is peace between the people, the natural world also poses some dangers. Different regions of the world have different types of storms and other natural disasters. (cont.)
So I think I'm making this too complicated on myself. I did say a 'skeleton' of a magic system, because I intended that we'd collectively flesh it out more later. So I'm going to rewrite the magic section to be more open to interpretation instead of me giving into my habit of trying to make every magic system like computer programming XD, and then we'll come back to it later with more questions/phases to figure out the ins and outs of how it works.
--cont. But that might still be two seperate skills, and could result in artists who are good at well, art, but less so with magic, or vice-versa. They would have to be practiced in tandem with each other to reach maximum effect. Hmmmm. I'll see what I can do, though.
I was thinking that generally more experienced artists elicit more of a reaction from their audience anyway (we notice a difference watching an amateur dancer, vs. one with years of practice). But perhaps I could add something like, as you get more experience in your art form, you find ways to make more complicated spells a part of it? I've already described magic as having an aspect of "fabric" to it, maybe there's some invisible "weaving" involved in the brush strokes/dancing/etc.?
I actually was going to talk a little more about it potentially being emotion-based, but I didn't want to dictate too much or overcomplicate it! You're totally right that art is subjective, but I think that skill in one's art could totally correspond to skill in magic; as you get better in an art, so too would your skill improve in the arcane, perhaps?
So a couple things: A) I was kind of bemused by how to make art into a functional magic system since "Good" art is such a subjective thing, so I made the basis of it more emotion based. I hope that's alright with you DruidDoll. And the second thing B) I was going to make this prettier XD Really I was! But I discovered my drawing tablet and DD games don't get along anymore, soooo we get this instead XP
