And if Jade River isn't who she thinks he is, then no harm has been done. All in all, White Rose is quite proud of herself. She plans to inform Captain Shooting Star and Governess Sable of her thoughts as soon as there's an opportunity to speak with them alone, but although he may be politically unfriendly, the Ambassador to the Island Archipelago doesn't really consider the man to be a dangerous enemy. After all, if he were behind the creation of a storm at sea, would he risk falling overboard?

If all this is the case, then White Rose has wasted her time in omitting certain facts herself, because it is likely that Jade River knows exactly who she is and why she is there. On the other hand, playing this game of wits will have achieved one thing: a fellow teller of half truths will have recognized that the new ambassador is already on her guard, and perhaps that's good. It is, hopefully, an effective means of demonstrating that she won't be easily manipulated even if she is a young girl.

What White Rose suspects, and what the man has almost confirmed, is that this is the last remaining scion of the House of Jade, and therefore a distant relative of the evil queen who threw her off of the town wall. The future princess doesn't, of course, blame him for that, but his evasiveness when challenged to tell her his reasons for going to the islands at the same time that she has been sent there, seems... shady. Is Jade River following her? And what cause could there be besides politics?

After a brief pause, White Rose continues to query the stranger in a conversational tone. "So, what prompts you to journey to the Island Archipelago?" This time Jade River doesn't answer right away. "I have never been to the islands before," he comments, dodging the question. "What about you?" The young ambassador has a ready response, however. "No, I've never visited them either, but my friend Maia's family home is there." She smiles brightly at him, wondering what the truth really is.
