The queen fell in a deep insecurity, but decided to form an alliance with the sisters in order to bring Mordred under her control. So Guinevere warned Elaine about Merlin's plan, Elaine rushed to her sister's rescue but was killed accidentally by an agitated Morgana. Morgana was consumed by guilt, she held her dying sister in her arms. Elaine informed Morgana about Merlin's plan, asked forgiveness from her sister, then sacrificed herself to Morgana.

Morgana stayed in Elaine's court, still feeling bitter towards Morgause's death, but was healing from inside, even started to show friendliness towards Arthur. However, Merlin had a terrible vision that Arthus's death will be at the hands of Mordred. The wise man was torn by the idea, but eventually decided to act first. Guinevere on the other hand learnt about Mordred's parentage when Morgana was careless.

The Lylthian was bound in the tablet after a great war, whoever she served in life will become her servant in the afterlife. It was a powerful tool with a dreadful consequence, and would ensure the downfall of its wielder. Morgana had Merlin believed she intended to use the tablet against him, so Merlin acted first by intercepting the transportation of the tablet. He then summoned the Lylthian from the tablet, and was forced to enter into a contract with her.

Elaine out of kinship took Morgana in, but wanted her sister to side with her in supporting Arthur. However, Morgana's mind was fixed on avenging Morgause. She spoke with Elaine, telling her that it was Merlin's meddling that leads to the death of their oldest sister. Elaine disliked Merlin for helping Uther violating their mother, so she agreed to the plan. Elaine produced a stone tablet she found in a dream, and told Morgana the tablet is a binding tool of a power being, an ancient Lylthian.
