She was like my mother, and as the only person I had ever met up to that point, she was my world. Then she died. I was left empty, with no one. No connections. It seemed that a part of me had faded to grey and my life was left barren and meaningless. So I left. I wandered the wild and became a part of it. Some of it became a part of me too, I think. Then I stumbled across Paris, a gem of a city in a world of what I thought was misty, monotonous grey. And I fell in love. Not just with the city, but with a man. A man with a heart and a mind and mortal blood pumping through his veins. Ah, but if I had run away like I usually do I might have spared both of us the inevitable blow. But I digress. Too much lost sleep over that mistake. When he died it was worse, much worse than losing Constance. |
