Mark would face opposition from many of the other Witches, as well, if it became known what he was... and eventually, when he failed to die after sixty or so years and instead had aged only a little, it would be noticed. Witches had long memories, and the Yelaadim had been vicious enemies during the Scourge. How old was he, exactly? Could he still have children if Marea wanted them? And if he did, any boy born to the couple would be a Yeled like his father, which would pose yet another problem.

The only real worry was for Marea. How serious was she about Mark Frost? If the pair were truly in love, Marea would have her grandmother's support, of course, but there was no denying there would be many obstacles to that relationship. First and most important of these was that Mark was in hiding lest he be killed on sight by the Yelaadim he'd betrayed. He appeared to be a good young man, if a trifle on the wild and reckless side, but it's... uncomfortable... living with a price on your head.

Then there was the matter of Brin and Hawkeye. The newlyweds did desire children, and, being a Witch, Brin should still be able to have a baby or two quite safely, although the pair couldn't dawdle for all that many more decades. Ynarra's daughter hadn't said whether she and her husband planned to start trying right away, or wait a brief while, therefore that was cause for speculation between the sisters as well. Like with Isthare's baby, they would find out soon enough, but guessing was fun.

So, these spells would likely prove effective in another month. This was important because Witches returned to their holy groves to give birth, while Ooneil would rather bring his child into the world at the Lyllaens' sacred willow. In other words, if the baby was a girl, Isthare's tradition won out, and if the infant turned out to be a boy, the couple would abide by the father's wishes. Ynarra privately thought that her adopted niece was carrying a daughter. Elora refused to take that bet.

They discussed anything and everything, old times and new... for instance, how soon it would be possible to tell whether Isthare's child was a boy or a girl. Normally the Witch mother would know right away, but with a half-fae baby, the signs were confusing. Ultrasound wasn't an option, just in case the infant should be forming full, or even vestigial, Lyllaen wings. However, there were methods of ascertaining the sex of human babies that were fairly reliable after the fifth month of gestation.
