The actual day before the wedding was to be held at midnight, Hawkeye's main job, as he viewed it, was to keep out of the way, and avoid running into Brin. Supposedly in western culture that was bad luck, and also he was somewhat hungover and didn't wish to be seen in that condition, but rather left alone to recover. Tiger, his young cousin, seemed to bounce back more quickly, and the fae Lyllu, of course, could hardly get drunk on mere mortal alcohol. So Hawkeye meditated, and anticipated...

And, as it turned out, there was something a bit akin to a stag party the night before the wedding in the Oakenling rituals. Mostly it was an evening of drinking and telling tall tales, some of which grew quite bawdy as the hours passed, but even these were, if you looked from a certain perspective, teaching parables. Hawkeye didn't dance... much... but he did consent to sing along with his compatriots several times, and he laughed more than anyone other than Brin had seen him do in a long time.

In lieu of being painted with runes for well-wishing, the groom traditionally played a "game" that was a little like "trash or recycle"; he meditated upon his faults and bad habits, and wrote down and burned those he wished to disappear forever, and wrote down in ink which he then immersed in water, those he didn't think he could or should eliminate entirely, but truly wanted to improve in himself. This was meant to prepare Hawkeye for his new marriage with a clear conscience, a clean slate.

Of his prospective step-daughter Marea's male friends, the only one Hawkeye had met was Tylyr, and that briefly. It seemed a stretch to call upon them. Therefore, although the three previously mentioned did attempt to hold a respectable drum circle, it quickly mutated into an idle chat session, with love, marriage, and Witches in particular as its central theme. Tiger didn't feel qualified to make personal judgments on any of the topics, being young and untested, but had shrewd observations.
